No hard feelings Tom

say goodnight Tom

Awesome.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft told Boston sports radio station WEEI on Tuesday they’ve reached terms with free-agent Jets defensive end Marques Murrell, but that’s a depth signing.

I’m happy for Murrell, but that just goes against everything I believe in as a Panthers fan… well, really as a football fan in general.

This is my 25th year as an app fan, but 40th as a Dolphin fan. Sorry Marques, mom and pop, I am no longer chearing for ya!

so according to Armanti, the Panther’s have expressed quite an interest in him…http://www.jbscouting.com/index.php/blog/546-edwards-wk7 pretty interesting stuff. GO APPANEERS!!!

I nearly threw up a little bit when i saw the news going through the wire. I have never really liked the Patriots, even though I will like our alumni no matter what, I will still like Marques Murrell but will never like the Patriots. At least he will go from a winning team to another winning team.

That makes 2 players I like who play for the Patriots… for some reason I’ve always liked Wes Welker. He’s just a fiery, gutsy, quick little guy that makes tough catches. I can’t dislike a guy that plays that hard all the time.

Hopefully Marques will get some time on defense.

Funny story about Tom Brady and the fact that he’s a Michigan alum:

Following the Upset at the Big House in 2007 some guys on the Patriots staff wanted to mess with Brady about it so they coordinated with an App alum that works in NASCAR to get one of the “Maized & Confused” t-shirts from the AppFan Store.

The next time all the players were working out in the weight room one of the strength coaches comes out to work with Brady wearing the Maized & Confused tshirt.

He didn’t notice at first but after a few minutes of the other players and staff giggling while he started working out he finally caught-on and everyone had a big laugh.

Thought y’all might like that one – you can now resume hating the Patriots.

Maybe Brady will “accidently” fall over Marques shoe or something. Hope Tom doesn’t invite Marques over to any parties or receptions. I hear they have a bang up time.

Okay, to help while away a few minutes while we wait for football to resume, here is a trivia quiz. There are 11 total FBS and FCS football schools that have team names that (1) do not end in the letter “s” and (2) do not include the name of a color. Name them.

Team names such as Alabama Crimson Tide, Stanford Cardinal, or North Texas Mean Green wouldn’t count because of the color restriction. Schools with a secondary name that would otherwise meet the criteria (Auburn War Eagle, Georgia Tech Wramblin’ Wreck) don’t count either—we’re looking for official team names that have no “s,” no color.

I’ll provide one to get things started—Naysayer’s favorite tidewater Virginia school, William & Mary Tribe. Several others should be easy for App fans, but many of you may have to do a bit of research to come up with a few of the outliers.

And yes, I know FBS/FCS football schools is a redundant term, but I’m trying to be very clear for those who don’t read carefully.

That’s one! Nine more to go.

Here’s another hint: six of the 11 are FBS schools, the other five (of which we’ve already named two) are FCS.

Very good, 2002! Let’s see–that’s two FBS and two FCS. Four more of the former, three more of the latter.

Heaven forbid Midwest “hear” me say this, but I’d bet the four FBS schools are much more familiar to App fans than the three remaining FCS teams.

Comment by DRM 03.10.10 @ 10:16 am

You’re too quick for me, 2002. Yes, our old friends the Herd are on the list.

Now, we need three more teams from each of the two D1 levels.

Illinois Fighting Illini

Comment by appfantoo 03.10.10 @ 10:19 am

Oops! Sorry appfantoo, I tried to type before reading carefully.

The contest is tied, two each for too and 2002.

Comment by DRM 03.10.10 @ 10:19 am

Stanford Cardinal – unless you consider Cardinal a color.

Comment by APP89 03.10.10 @ 10:19 am

3-2 for too!

Comment by DRM 03.10.10 @ 10:19 am

Sorry 89, “Team names such as Alabama Crimson Tide, Stanford Cardinal, or North Texas Mean Green wouldn’t count because of the color restriction.”

In Stanford’s case, cardinal refers to their red color, not to a bird.

Comment by DRM 03.10.10 @ 10:20 am

We need two FBS schools (one of which I know is very familiar to you guys) and three FCS schools, neither of which is in the south.

Comment by DRM 03.10.10 @ 10:22 am

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Comment by appfantoo 03.10.10 @ 10:23 am

4-2 for too–a bit of separation! Now, one more FBS team and the three less well-known FCS schools.

Comment by appgrad2002 03.10.10 @ 10:28 am

You guys are either quite knowledgeable, good with research, or both. Both are correct, so that makes it 5-3 in too’s favor.

Only two FCS schools left.

Comment by DRM 03.10.10 @ 10:30 am

Final hint: the two remaining teams have the same team name.

Comment by APP89 03.10.10 @ 10:34 am

Comment by appgrad2002 03.10.10 @ 10:35 am

North Dakota State Bison
Bucknell Bison

Comment by appfantoo 03.10.10 @ 10:36 am

Good hints..

Comment by appfantoo 03.10.10 @ 10:36 am

Did someone say UMass Minutemen?

Comment by APP89 03.10.10 @ 10:37 am

One more “final” hint: three of the 11 schools use the same creature as their team mascot/source of team name, though only two (the two we haven’t yet named) call the creature by its proper name.

Comment by DRM 03.10.10 @ 10:37 am

That’s it, too–those are the final two on my list. But now 89 has pointed out one I had overlooked. UMass definitely plays D1 football, there is no color and no “s” in Minutemen, so I stand corrected–there are (at least) 12 schools that meet the criteria.

Maybe that’s the next thing we can waste a few minutes on–coming up with other schools that meet the criteria, over and above the 12 we now know. To recap, here’s the list as it now stands:

FBS:
Illinois Fighting Illini
Marshall Thundering Herd
Navy Midshipmen
NC State Wolfpack
Nevada Wolf Pack
Notre Dame Fighting Irish

FCS:
Bucknell Bison
Elon Phoenix
North Dakota Fighting Sioux
North Dakota State Bison
UMass Minutemen
William & Mary Tribe

good job appfantoo. I got stuck on a call and couldn’t work on it, but not sure I would have thought of the bison anyway

Comment by appgrad2002 03.10.10 @ 10:46 am

I’d like to thank the boys in the shop back at Google for giving us the horsepower to run up front today.

Comment by appfantoo 03.10.10 @ 10:47 am

and carl edwards for not wrecking you while going on google.

Comment by appgrad2002 03.10.10 @ 10:50 am

You both did well, and did so quickly. And 89 at least gets an honorable mention prize for coming up with an addition to the list.

Comment by DRM 03.10.10 @ 10:50 am

I just threw up in my mouth a little tiny bit. Congrats to the Michelin Man…..but damn, New England?

Comment by Jamey 03.10.10 @ 11:51 am

Better New England than some perennial losing franchise. Besides, Carolina Panthers have some of the ugliest uniforms in the NFL.

Comment by DRM 03.10.10 @ 11:58 am

Oh no, anyone but the Pats.

Comment by biggie 03.10.10 @ 2:28 pm

I love the panthers uniforms, and plus thats one of Vicks reasons for wanting to come here…cause he likes the uniforms.

Comment by bob 03.10.10 @ 4:41 pm

Not a huge fan of the panthers unis either, at least not the white version.

Comment by Dan 03.10.10 @ 4:46 pm

If you Panther fans want AE (and want him to have any chance at all at QB), why would you want Vick? Further, if Vick likes the uniforms, that settles it–clearly, they’re UGLY!

Comment by DRM 03.10.10 @ 4:55 pm

its sad hes not on the jets anymore, only app st player i had on my fav nfl team.
