App State leaves Thursday to face the .. say it with us … coldcold weather and hugehuge crowd for which Montana is known.
For the “underdog” Apps, it’s nuttin but .. /straightens tie .. bid’ness.
Linebacker D.J. Smith said: “It’s a business trip. But a lot of our guys haven’t been that far out West so it is a little different.
“It’s the playoffs and they’re the No. 1 team in the nation, so it’s going to be a big challenge, but I’m pretty sure we’re up for it,” Smith said. “We don’t put too much on rankings. It’s all about being the best team in that stadium on that day.”
Linebacker Jacque Roman said: “They’re a good fundamental team, maybe not the greatest athletes, but they get the job done. They’re big up front, but usually we can take advantage of big guys with our speed, and we have good speed from our defensive line to our back seven so we should be good on that.”
There’s that App State cliche – speed! And don’t think the Griz haven’t noticed.
“Appalachian State’s speed really stood out,” Montana coach Bobby Hauck said. “I thought Richmond, after the game last year, ran very well and had a lot of team speed. But the Mountaineers were certainly faster.
“The other thing that stood out to me was how stout they are up front on both sides of the ball. They have really physical players on both sides of the ball.”
Meanwhile, the Charlotte paper seems downright pessimistic on the App’s chances.
Unlike Montana, which cruised through the quarterfinals, Appalachian State had to make two fourth-quarter comebacks to stay alive, sealing its victory at Richmond on a touchdown pass with 10 seconds remaining.
Trailing by 10 points with less than 10 minutes to play, Appalachian State scored three late touchdowns to advance.
“Coach Moore told us that 99 out of 100 teams probably would have given up in the game because of the position we were in,” Mountaineers’ linebacker Jacque Roman said. “It shows the character of our team.”
Beat Montana.
Eh, who cares what a paper thinks? The team sounds like it knows what they can do. Ever since that OT win against The Citadel I think this team has learned how to win as a team. Win and advance, that is all that matters. They only need one more point than the other guys.
Comment by Chard 12.09.09 @ 9:27 amBeat Montana.
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 9:29 amWhat I remember from last year’s championship game is thinking how much faster Richmond was than Montana. It made a huge difference. I really hope that is evident in this game early on.
Comment by Gwaltineer 12.09.09 @ 9:32 amThe more I hear from Montana Fans, the more I think we will see another championship game this year. It sounds like all we need to beat them are some space heaters and a pair of earplugs.
Comment by AviatorJack 12.09.09 @ 9:42 amApp needs to strike fast and get on the board first to quiet the crowd. Once the crowd is silenced, it will be business as usual. GO APP!
Comment by AppUSMC 12.09.09 @ 9:43 amIt’s the Charlotte paper’s job to make everything sound depressing and horrible that is outside Charlotte so that the city doesn’t sound as bad.
Comment by ASUPhan 12.09.09 @ 9:52 amMonte the Grizzly looks more like Yogi’s friend Booboo. Take it to Booboo early and often. Smashmouth football style.
Comment by appslap 12.09.09 @ 9:57 amcome visit us at egriz.com
Comment by Griz Fan 12.09.09 @ 9:57 amGriz Fan, I remember something earlier in the year about Hauck refusing to speak to and bullying the student newspaper out there. I looked at the griz site back then and many of the students were calling for his resignation. Has that all calmed down? Since he’s winning, he is now the “good guy” again? Will the two players that were involved in the “assault” still playing? Seemed like a “much ado about nothing” or maybe not, but he should know better than to piss of jounalist.
Comment by Rick 12.09.09 @ 10:01 amHold on to the ball. No stupid penalties because the officials are looking for us now (celebration ), and play our game. If we do that I’ll see you in Chantanooooooga
Comment by Bcoach 12.09.09 @ 10:05 amit was “much ado about nothing” egriz has a WIDE variety of fans..some of which despise Bobby Hauck…even tho he’s one of the most successful coaches in Griz history. The two players are playing, as the student that got in a fight with the two players refused to file an incident report and made a comment that it was just a fight. Shi& happens, even with college football players…the college paper (Kaimin)kept pressing the issue in press reports with the coach…the coach refused to comment…has he generally does and the Kaimin pulled a spoiled litte brat tamtrum..even covered our opposition on the following game paper, rather than the griz team in retribution…didn’t go over too well!! Too bad the Kaimin didn’t have a mower accident headline to cover instead!!
Comment by Griz Fan 12.09.09 @ 10:11 amKill Grizzly Bears!
Comment by NoTentsAllowed 12.09.09 @ 10:15 amThe Armanti Prayer
Our Armanti, who art in Boone,
Hallowed be thy Game
Thy offense come.
Montana will be done.
At the Rock as it was in Ann Arbor
Give him swift feet his foes doth dread
And forgive us our false starts
As we will show no forgiveness for those who
Pass protect against us.
And lead us not into BCS nation
But deliver us to Chattanooga..
For the end zone is your kingdom,
And you have the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
lets go!!! lets keep it a business trip and stay away from the bars!!!
Comment by appirishmen 12.09.09 @ 10:18 amGriz Fan, mower story was NOT much ado about nothing, at least to us, lol. I was interested if there was still anything stirring behind that. Its always dumbfounded me how if two students get in a fight, no big deal, but if its a FB player, then “Oh God!”. No trash talking or anything, but I thought your egriz readers might enjoy this story about Armanti. Its a great read about him and what he has come from and turned into, mostly as a man. Thought it may set a more sportsmanly tone going into Saturday.

Do not know about you guys, but not a lot of work is getting done this week.
BEAT MONTANA!!!!!!
Comment by mark 12.09.09 @ 10:28 amGreat story about AE. He’s an incredible athlete and person. It will be a monumental task for our team to keep him and your other stars from taking control of the game. I was following the APP/Richmond game on a gamethread (AGS)…and at one point in the late third and early fourth quarter some of your fans were definately worried…making “play calling” and “coaching” comments regarding screen passes that weren’t working, etc. Griz Nation is extremely proud to welcome in the NC for 3 of the past 4 years…what an accomplishment. Your team won’t be taken lightly by either the players or the fans…we have the utmost respect! It’s gonna be fun…now if we could just do something about how slow time seems to be going…it’s onl y w e d n e s d a y
I hope you bring some fans to enjoy the gameday experience…I know when we play you at your place in 2012 or 2013?, we’ll bring some hard core fans.
Comment by Griz Fan 12.09.09 @ 10:35 amGriz Fan,
you guys are here in 2012 and we’re there in ‘13. Should be great. I’m already planning on making that trip. Wish flights weren’t so expensive last minute to get to Bozeman this year…
Comment by Esko 12.09.09 @ 10:38 amby the way…I’ve checked out your gameday video recaps…they’re awesome. Some of the best football videos I’ve seen from other schools…you should be proud.
Comment by Griz Fan 12.09.09 @ 10:39 amIf the Apps win on Saturday they will be getting yet another monkey off their backs. They’ve never won a game west of the Mississippi in their history.
Comment by Flashman 12.09.09 @ 10:46 amThis will be ASU’s speed against Montana’s size. If we can get them blocked on the O line, I like our chances, though we may get involved in a shootout in which we have to outscore them rather than stop them. We’ll have problems if our D can’t get pressure on the QB or control the line of scrimmage on the run. I’m also not enamored of our secondary, though I do think we’ve got some speed back there too; Gilbert and Gainey are going to have to prove they can cover someone. This game, like all others, comes down to Armanti. If he gets some room, look out.
Comment by Appnaysayer 12.09.09 @ 10:48 amThe Charlotte paper is nuts. The Griz have not “cruised” into the playoffs. What they pulled off against SDSU at the last minute was scary crazy. Granted, last week’s game against SFA was a blowout, but that can be good or bad for a team. Point is- regardless of which side you are on (UM or ASU), I think you are wrong in saying this is going to be a blowout by either side. Just looking at stats, the two teams are fairly well matched. One item (which I think has been conveniently ignored here), is that McNeese State beat ASU at home, then SFA beat McNeese State (both close games) and then we know what UM did to SFA last week. Does that mean UM will kill ASU- of course not. UM needed a last minute field goal to beat Idaho State, a 1-10 team and the worst team in the Big Sky. Ultimately, what that all means is that any team at this stage can beat the other team on any given Saturday. Homefield advantage does help (although I think the whole noise and cold gets over valued). But, the best part about it, we get to see live a truly great quarterback, AE, play in what I hope is the last game of his college career. I hope that UM can rise to the challenge of stopping him as some other teams have, so it can be done. I have confidence they can do it. No matter what, though, I hope it is a close and hard fought game.
Comment by Grizzled 12.09.09 @ 10:53 amIf the Charlotte observer would realize that Montana was seeded better than ASU it makes sense that our games were closer with champion style teams than those puffs that Montana has had to beat. Not to mention they let a puff team score 48 on them and they had to come back in the 4th to beat that lowly seeded team. We are now conditioned to give a beat down to anyone that crosses our path. The momentum is in our favor.
Missoula will be our other “Big House” we’ll bring down.
Comment by herbstreitsucks formerly grudensucks 12.09.09 @ 10:54 amMaybe Armanti should get some advice from Tony Romo. His team was going to punish the Griz in 2000 and we handed them a 45-13 shellacking. I remember he was once asked if he was prepared for the noise against Seattle Seahawks and he told the reporter he had already played at WGS.
Comment by GRIZZZLY 12.09.09 @ 10:56 amStats, noise and crowd figures can be compared all day. The fact is that none of those put points on the board. Skill and athleticism do, I think App has the advantage in that aspect. Not to say this won’t be an exciting and close game.
Comment by Esko 12.09.09 @ 10:57 amTony Romo is a puff too. No correlation there.
Comment by herbstreitsucks formerly grudensucks 12.09.09 @ 10:57 amA lot is being made of Montana’s size advantage. Just looked at the ASU weekly media guide. Montana’s oline outweighs ASU’s dline by 13 lbs on average. ASU’s oline outweighs Montana’s dline by 12 lbs. Seems to be a push.
Comment by Rick 12.09.09 @ 11:00 amThat Tony Romo reference was made by another one of your fans on another thread. And as I stated earlier, you’re pathetic if you have to use a Tony Romo quote to make your case.
Comment by yosef83 12.09.09 @ 11:09 amI wouldn’t really consider the Charlotte Observer a “news”paper most of the time. More like a $$$$ cow. But anywho, Beat Montana!
Comment by Tampa Bay Fan 12.09.09 @ 11:14 amIf you do a google search for loudest FCS stadium, you get mostly results from Montana sites making this claim. That strikes me the same as trying to give yourself a nickname. You may want to be called ‘T-bone’, but in the end, everyone will just wind up calling you ‘Coco the gorilla’.
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 11:15 amT.B. Fsn – where’ve you been, man? I don’t even recall you chiming in after the Corey Lynch block vs. the Falcons.
Comment by yosef83 12.09.09 @ 11:25 amyosef83 he was too busy celebrating Corey’s accomplishment to celebrate. I was hoping I would see him make a big play in Carolina this weekend but it didn’t happen.
Comment by herbstreitsucks formerly grudensucks 12.09.09 @ 11:30 amI agree yosef83- I like AE and think he’s a better QB and have respect for him. Almost forgot that I HATE the cowboys!
Comment by GRIZZZLY 12.09.09 @ 11:30 amThe observer is tired of giving the Panthers the beatdown so they want to dog on us now.
Comment by herbstreitsucks formerly grudensucks 12.09.09 @ 11:31 amFolks, I have grown up in Charlotte and I can tell you that the Observer knows about as much about ASU football as I know about soccer. Which is to say…ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. They basically carbon copied the article about Armanti from the Winston-Salem newspaper. We get no respect or coverage unless it is the Saturday after we win a Chmapionship game. They would pick the Easter Bunny over App State. I am shocked they are even covering the playoffs.
As for Saturday’s game…I cannot wait. I like the fact that these are going to be the best 2 teams in the FCS squaring off. It sucks that this game is not being held a week later and in Chattanooga though. The mutual respect is good to see as both programs are TOP NOTCH. I still have a very good feeling that we are riding the momentum that it takes to end up back in Chattanooga. Big players make big plays, as we have seen our guys make those plays down the stretch.
Fear The AppNation.
Comment by Jamey 12.09.09 @ 11:36 amIt is really great to see the respect we have for each other. This is what sports should be about. Let’s have a great game. I can’t be there this time but when you come to Boone I look forward to meeting some of you.
Go App
The Winston paper loves us. They always put nice spreads in after we won the national titles. Jamey, I too have a good feeling about Saturday, it sucks having to wait the extra 3 days, but i’m excited to see a great game.
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 11:47 amGRIZZZLY – that’s funny, two great college programs, one from the great northwest, one from the south, both who desperately want to win Saturday, can agree on one universal truth: the Dallas Cowboys suck. LOL
Comment by yosef83 12.09.09 @ 11:48 amThis video speeks of stadiums, video production ability and program status . . . plus it is one of my favorites. This video gets me more pumped about ASU than any other accept the award winner that has had the sound taken off on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMhBPESbcII
Comment by AppOrange 12.09.09 @ 11:50 amTommy Bowman, ASU beat writer for W-S Journal, has done more for us media-wise than anybody I know of. We should all take the time at some point to tell him what a great job he does. He can be reached at tbowman@wsjournal.com
Comment by yosef83 12.09.09 @ 11:53 amGriz Fans – Watch that video in it’s entirety, then you will understand COMPLETELY why we will not be intimidated by coming to your place, the discussion stops there. This is one of the reason’s we play these games EVERY year.
Finish . . . Finish!!!
Comment by AppOrange 12.09.09 @ 12:02 pmAppOrange, look i love that video. it’s amazing. but let’s be honest.
we were down 30-0 at halfimte.
so…who are we as fans to sit here and say the fans werent intimidated…
Yall just think…we could be sitting around looking forward to the Waffle House sponsered by Jimmy Dean Bowl. Man I hate FBS football! Go APP!
Comment by dixiedawg80 12.09.09 @ 12:10 pmGoing to be in Boone Sat, where is everyone going to watch THE GAME. Not klondike’s I hope.
Comment by jetwin 12.09.09 @ 12:20 pmBrokeback Montana. Let’s just say that Montana boys know how to spread the defense and come from behind.
I wish I could quit you.
Comment by craig 12.09.09 @ 12:20 pmI take it the Klondike is no longer a nice bar in Boone? That was THE bar back in ‘92 when I lived in Boone. Is Boone Bagles still around at least?
Comment by Grizzled 12.09.09 @ 12:24 pmReading the above posts, I notice that Grizzled mentions teams that have stopped AE. Which teams are those?
UR in last year’s playoffs when he was on one leg and we had no RBs? LSU in 08?.
McNeese sure didn’t stop him, even though they shredded our defense. He didn’t play against ECU. Georgia Southern in 07 when he was coming back from injury and still nearly beat them? Stopping AE…where would Montana find film to study? Still working on that one…maybe someone else here can help me out.
Comment by Appnaysayer 12.09.09 @ 12:48 pmElon stopped him, for Western anyway.
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 12:51 pmLot,
Who are we, as fans, to say they were intimidated? I think it was more they were playing the defending FBS champions who respected (and gave it to) us. On a side note, we outscored them in the second half. If our players were intimidated, it was probably the 5 star guys they were lined up against, not so much the stadium or nosie.
Either way, my point was that all this talk about noise and the crowd may be applicable to most teams that go up there, but not for a team who has played in a ton of huge venue’s like Clemson, Auburn, NSCU, Auburn, LSU and Michigan.
Comment by AppOrange 12.09.09 @ 12:53 pmIt’s a double wide trailor that’s teaming with frat douches Grizzled. Boone Bagelry is delish though. Yeah I don’t think Boone is the same town from 92′.
Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 1:03 pm92?? Boone isn’t the same town from 2002!
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 1:05 pmKlondike sucks
Comment by kyle 12.09.09 @ 1:09 pmyes, Taylor’s description was spot on.
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 1:10 pmBoone Bagelry is still there but the new bagel place is much better, its across from the Wellness Center and is called Mountain Bagels. Them actually make them fresh there!
Damn, made myself hungry! Time to hit that place up and get me a Big Bear sandwich! <– That should be this weeks pregame meal for everyone!
Comment by Dominick 12.09.09 @ 1:14 pmAnybody seen the store on GoASU.com, they have a promo for National Championship T Shirts…umm I feel like it’s 1994 and were playing VMI again, why are they doing that?
Comment by Kidd Brewer 12.09.09 @ 1:15 pmKidd – that appears to be SoCon championship merchandise.
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 1:17 pmReally Kidd brewer!? Gah did we not learn anything from Elon and their “09 SoCon champs” stuff. What ever. Goooo APppppp!!!!
Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 1:18 pmAmen, Dan! Among the many other changes, there’s a hell of a lot more traffic (daily, I mean, not just on game days)–takes forever to run a couple lunchtime errands these days!
Comment by DRM 12.09.09 @ 1:19 pmDan, it says National Champions
Comment by Kidd Brewer 12.09.09 @ 1:21 pm@Kidd Brewer
The store is managed by another company and not ASU crew so I’m guessing they made preview images for all schools and they put ours up by accident. Or an Elon fan is trying to jinx us like their site did to them.
Comment by Esko 12.09.09 @ 1:23 pmDress Like A Champion http://www.advanced-online.com/custom/Build_FrameSet_Entry.asp
Comment by Kidd Brewer 12.09.09 @ 1:23 pmThough this comment might be more appropriate under the Naysayer moniker, in the midst of all this pleasant discussion/banter, mutual respect and congratulation and such, neither App nor Montana should assume that the winner in Missoula will have anything short of a huge struggle against whichever CAA team (I’m betting it’s Nova) they’ll face in Chattanooga. In other words, let’s not get ahead of ourselves–and that goes for both teams supported by those of us posting here.
Comment by DRM 12.09.09 @ 1:24 pmDon’t see anything that says National Champs on there…?
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 1:25 pmWell Esko, we need to dump that company and run our own store, of course GoASU site sucks anyways.
Comment by Kidd Brewer 12.09.09 @ 1:25 pmDan,
Click the link Kidd Brewer provided and scroll down. Unfortunately its there.
Comment by Esko 12.09.09 @ 1:26 pmWell Dan, it says Dress Like A Champion, Congratulations ASU…Celebrate the NCAA Division I National Champions, shop now, and it has a picture of a t-shirt that says National Champions
Comment by Kidd Brewer 12.09.09 @ 1:27 pmsorry guys, been up and down that site, don’t see anything.
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 1:28 pmI have confidence in my guys, I just hate crap like this…no reason to have a t shirt like that when we arent even in the Championship game…bad karma is right
Comment by Kidd Brewer 12.09.09 @ 1:29 pmok, apparently my cookies weren’t updating or something, just refreshed and got it. Wow, that’s ridiculous. Bad joojoo.
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 1:29 pmnot sure what you arent seeing Dan, bc it is there…oh well, BEAT MONTANA
Comment by Kidd Brewer 12.09.09 @ 1:30 pmI dont understand all the hate toward the greek community on this site. I understand you arent going to like everyone but you seem to blanket all greek students with your comments. Or atleast fraternity guys.
Comment by Ry_ATO 12.09.09 @ 1:31 pmRy_ATO
it all comes from people that don’t understand the greek system and assume we are all like the stereotypes from Animal House.
Comment by Esko 12.09.09 @ 1:34 pmTo be fair guys, Taylor’s post doesn’t necessarily call all frat guys douches, but instead may simply be referring to a specific kind of douche.
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 1:39 pmRy, As an institution, Greek life is a way for people to have their social lives scheduled and planned out for them, much like a class would be. It’s a way for weak wealthy college students that can’t bring themselves to make their own friends to have as much fun as possible. With the cocaine, cheating, and sexual misconduct, it’s a wonder that more Frats aren’t shut down every year. I know there are some cool people in Frats and Sororities, but as an institution it’s outrageous. It’s basically organized crime controlled by a bunch of self-righteous rich kids that are to awkward to make their own friends.
Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 1:40 pmBut, I do know and like alot of people on Frats. It’s just the whole way of life that gets me. And the way I laugh at them when they lose a game of beer pong and I can see it in their eyes that they didn’t realize it was possible. But anyways, I digest. Lets get back to why ASU is going to win Saturday. My guess is on account of our overwhelming speen and dangerous spread offence that the lumbering grizzilies are nto used to.
Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 1:43 pmPeople have that hate towards Greeks because they give themselves that reputation.. As I always said, “I don’t have to pay for my friends”
Comment by Joe 12.09.09 @ 1:43 pmSpeed*
Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 1:44 pmGreek Life=paying for your friends. BEAT MONTANA!
Comment by Reese 12.09.09 @ 1:49 pmWOW i cant believe what Taylor wrote I about fell out of my chair. For real man that is not even close to true.
Comment by Ry_ATO 12.09.09 @ 1:49 pmYou realize I’m a student right? You will find that well over half of ASU would whole heartedly agree with me. I’m sorry for offending you and steriotyping, but it’s unavoidable. Like Joe said, they give themselves that reputation.
Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 1:52 pmTaylor,
that last comment just shows how little you know about greek organizations. That made as much sense as me explaining to somebody how to perform open-heart surgery. Just leave it that you are stuck believing stereotypes and don’t actually know what you’re talking about.
Comment by Esko 12.09.09 @ 2:02 pmi agree with Taylor. all of the frat boys i have met up here at app the past four years were all a** holes. i agree also. i dont have to pay for my friends.
Comment by appirishmen 12.09.09 @ 2:02 pmUnfortunately, I will have to agree with Taylor. I am all about supporting ASU but damn, these frat guys up here are just ridiculous. I mean, do you all really think you own the world..?
Comment by Andrew 12.09.09 @ 2:05 pmAll of those comments are exactly what’s wrong with the view of the greek system at App. Nobody wants to really know what it’s about so they portray it as something awful to make themselves feel better.
Not to say there aren’t a share of douchebags in the greek system, just like there are douchebags in the anti-greek and general population. You can’t define the many by the actions of the few.
Comment by Esko 12.09.09 @ 2:06 pmeven the guys i knew before they joined a frat became a holes after they joined.
Comment by app09 12.09.09 @ 2:06 pmHey, I was very close to joining a fraternity at ASU but decided it wasn’t quite my forte. Not all the guys are dbags but, after experiencing some ASU parties.. the majority are
Comment by Andrew 12.09.09 @ 2:08 pmenough with the bashing of our own school, lets get back on with this ASU>montana chat..
Comment by Andrew 12.09.09 @ 2:10 pmI have no reason to dislike Greek people besides the opinions that I have developed my self after going to school here for 2 and a half years. I’ve been to frat parties, I’ve been friends with people who were at the time or later joined a frat, I even almost rushed one year. There isn’t some kind of “anti-frat” propaganda being spread around campus, poisoning everyone’s view of you guys. It is a direct result of the shady behavior and overall conceded shitty attitude that surrounds Greek life. I’m not sure if you most likely become a douche when you join a frat, or you most likely are a douche when you join a frat, but the douche ora is most defiantly there and they have no one to blame but themselves.
Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 2:14 pmMy sentiment exactly. Like I said before, I am very concerned abot this Montana football team. there is WAY too much of this plan preparation for Chatty. These frikin guys are tough, mean and have been bailing hay since they could walk. All this AE talk is pointless if AND WHEN thier game plan works and stops him. Im proud…But smart were both great, lets show that Appy sportmanship before we loose the game and all the Grizz come to the site to feed us crow pie!!
Comment by Banjo 12.09.09 @ 2:15 pmIn Blowing Rock, there used to be a restaurant called “Stephens”. Is it still there? That is where my wife and I met. I used to go running every day at Moses Cone. Great memories.
I remember drinking some Bass Ales at the Klondike, but that’s about it. I wasn’t in school at ASU when I was there, so really did not know if it was frat hang out or not.
Also- in response to Appnaysayer- I have to admit that I do not follow ASU that closely, so it may be that teams have not been able to stop AE when he is healthy. But, ultimately UM has to stop ASU and ASU is not undefeated, so someone has to have figured that out. It sounds to me like McNeese State was able to contain him enough to put up more points. Makes sense, as it is better to be well rounded than have one superstar. In any event, this is why Hauk and his staff get paid the big bucks (its not for positive public relations with the student newspaper).
I am done tlaking about frats. Banjo, why do you think they can shut down AE? No team has ever done that sans his injuries, whether they be from Elon or a lawn mower.
Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 2:18 pmguys in my 6 years at app i saw just as ridiculas behavior from greeks and non-greeks. each would say the other sucked. i never did pay for my friends though. the one thing i did learn though is no matter what good any greek organiztion does they cant get past the sterotypes of people who dont want to understand. my brothers are the most diverse group of guys from all types of back grounds.
Comment by Ry_ATO 12.09.09 @ 2:20 pmI see this game coming down to size vs speed and in 2009 at least, speed ALWAYS prevails. We just play a different kind of ball in in the south. It’s the exact same logic that led us to our win over the other UM.
Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 2:21 pmIt’s also why Montana couldn’t beat Richmond or Wofford.
Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 2:25 pmFor what its worth I agree with Taylor.
Comment by mgood89 12.09.09 @ 2:30 pmAnd Armanti limped pretty good through all of the pregame warmups for the McNeese game. I know us app fans like to lean on the crutch of Armanti wasnt 100% but it was his first game back from a 6 week injury.
Comment by mgood89 12.09.09 @ 2:33 pmThere is a difference between a “Frat” and a “Fraternity” was what we always said when I was there. There were definitely both types of organizations on campus. I took pride in the fact that we had open parties (as open as was allowed by the University) For what it is worth…the school makes a lot of the rules that people think create the exclusivity complex. The guest lists and security…not our idea. There are those that fit the “Frat” sterotype and mess it up for the rest of us. But it is what it is. I think you would all be shocked if you knew who all was actually in a fraternity and did not act like a total d-bag.
As for Saturday……KILL THE BEARS.
As for championship t-shirts……Whoever put them on the website should be beaten with a bag of wet hammers.
Comment by Jamey 12.09.09 @ 2:44 pmYosef83, I think I commented on that.. In fact I’m pretty sure I did. But anywho,I’m always here, watching.. waiting..
And herbstreitsucks formerly grudensucks: This Tampa Bay fan was definitely looking out for Corey on TV. I saw him a couple times, but he didn’t get mentioned. Oh, and I’m a GIRL
THanks
That’s cool. Just hadn’t heard from you in awhile & wanted you to know you were missed. You always post good stuff to read.
Comment by yosef83 12.09.09 @ 3:10 pm“(I’m betting it’s Nova) they’ll face in Chattanooga.”–DRM
DRM, you have no confidence in that Tribe defense? Fear the Feathers, my man, Fear the Feathers! Jimmy Laycocke may have a glorious moment or two left in him.
Actually, I tend to agree that Nova is likely the strongest team in the field (present company included) based on strength of schedule, margin of victory, etc. But the strongest doesn’t always win. Besides, giving in to Nova would crush half of my semi-final game-watching buzz! It is my weekend to root for underdogs, fight for the lost cause, etc., etc., etc.

Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 4:01 pmI got it, I was with you, I was making another bad joke on top of yours. Sometimes I am a lot funnier in my head than I am when it comes out.
Comment by Rufus 12.09.09 @ 4:04 pmBeen there man.
Comment by Taylor 12.09.09 @ 4:05 pmI hear you about match-ups, Dan. I do have to wonder, though, with W&M playing Nova, just how many big kids from Pennsylvania you can put on one field. Should be quite the day for the Keystone State.
Comment by Appnaysayer 12.09.09 @ 4:29 pmWell, for what it’s worth, Naysayer, I like green and yellow (gold) better than Nova’s “dark blue” that looks for all the world like purple to me. I really hate purple! Hope MT doesn’t go and change their colors this week.
Comment by DRM 12.09.09 @ 4:40 pmsome of my best memories were made in college at klondike. and i wasnt in a frat.
$1 busch lite’s on thursdays were awesome while dancing with the young freshmen on the trashy dance floor. for a college kid it was fun. would i go back and party there now? definitly not.
boone hasnt been the same since liqour arrived.
The only matchup that will matter in this game (apparently) is MU’s (UM?) crowd vs. the App State football team. I forsee the Apps coming out with a strong effort and capturing a 2 touchdown lead before the Montana fans stage a fierce comeback and end up beating App 31-28. The Montana fans will be victorious, meanwhile, their actual team will spend the game in the locker room sipping hot cocoa and watching a Law and Order marathon.
Comment by Dan 12.09.09 @ 5:14 pmparking lot – when I was up there, we had to go to Blowing Rock for that kind of action. Mother Fletcher’s, P.B. Scott’s, Clyde’s, Antlers. Ah, those were the daze…..
Comment by yosef83 12.09.09 @ 5:31 pmI can’t believe I am saying this, but App. State has a JMU fan that is looking for an App. State win. Good luck at the Griz. They are extremely tough. We were rooting for your guys last weekend when you were in my home town of Richmond.
Comment by Purple & Gold 12.09.09 @ 6:00 pmwooow purple & gold! Surprising, but greatly appreciated!
83- oh yes, you were before my time, but i remember having to go to blowing rock as well…green park inn, meadowbrook, twigs..
Comment by parking lot 12.09.09 @ 6:13 pmGriz fans,
I just took a good look at your stadium on on the web. You should be proud, you have a great looking facility.
On the topic of great places to drink in Boone/Blowing Rock I have to mention Cottonwood Grille. I will forever miss that place… mostly the fresh brewed beers. I.P.A., Porter, Low Down Brown… and Snake Oil Medicine Show breakin’ strings at the corner of the bar back before Doc heard them on King St. and took them down to Merle Fest. The absolute best of Boone IMO.
BEAT Montana!!!!!!!! (and catch few of their trout while your there!)
Comment by Bear 12.09.09 @ 8:38 pmanybody know of any viewing parties in Winston-Salem? i’d like to watch the game surrounded by fellow App fans. thanks!
Comment by ross 12.09.09 @ 9:25 pmI love how you think we are “in the west,” True Montanan’s don’t even consider ourselves from the west, rather the northwest! I personally and am excited to watch App St come over to Missoula to play, your program has been just successful as ours over the past decade and you have outstanding athletes. This is definitely the biggest game in the state of Montana over the past decade. Good luck too you, but I really do think griz win 38-35!
Comment by 406 Griz Fan 12.09.09 @ 9:32 pmI was in Boone last week for the first time in 2 years, and was floored by the passing of “liquor-by-the-drink”. I was a waiter and “beertender” at Macado’s during the early/mid 90’s, and always wondered when and if it would pass. As for the Klondike, I miss the local bands that would play each week, such as “Sticky” and “100th Monkey”-great times. Anyway, as far as the game is concerned, we need to go to Missoula, bundle up, and take care of business just as we have so many times in the past. Go APP!!!
Comment by Mike 12.09.09 @ 9:55 pmApp Fans we welcome you to Montana. Saturday’s game is going to be intense and if you haven’t heard….it’s also Armanti’s last collegiate game.!! Tell your brother Darryl and your other brother Darryl to be there…you don’t want to miss it!!
Our Monte is better than Armanti!!
Taylor, you’re not helping yourself. You should get over the class-envy thing.
GrizNation: Honestly, your last sentence sounds suspect. Think Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhall(sp?)
Comment by Forth 12.09.09 @ 10:05 pmGrizNation17, I guess thats why your Monte won the Payton award last year and is a finalist this year … oh wait, thats Armanti. Yes, you guys are undefeated, but UR killed ya in the NC last year, Wofford in the 1st round the year before that. Why? Speed. UM is great team, but slow in comparison to CAA and SoCon competition. We’ll have Darryl and Darryl (who were actually set on the Newhart Show in the NorthEast) with us to protect our behinds from you Ennis Cowboys. Don’t worry, you’ll know who to quit us! Lol.
Comment by Rick 12.09.09 @ 11:15 pmJust don’t go full Monte on us GrizNation. I’m sure the State of Montana is proud to have you on their welcoming committee!
Comment by scott 12.09.09 @ 11:21 pmI don’t see the crowd or the weather being a deciding factor with APP.The Griz are just extremely tough at home and lets just say you do come out and score two right away it doesn’t matter, they don’t get down or give up till’ the very end. Just look at SD! The fan support certainly doesn’t help your chances. The griz SHUT OUT the #1 offense in the nation last week. By the way before they came weather and crowd noise wasn’t going to be a factor either. I hope it isn’t because I’d like to see a good game, last week was cold and boring.
Comment by Mountainoftears 12.10.09 @ 12:02 amTears—We don’t give up either (ask Richmond) and with 10 turnovers, it’s looks like SFA shut themselves out (not that your D wasn’t responsible for some of the TO’s)
It might be cold and boring this week as well……
Comment by scott 12.10.09 @ 12:06 amBeating a team with a middle initial in their name is not impressive.
Comment by Gwaltineer 12.10.09 @ 6:35 amBEAT UM!!!
Comment by asu7 12.10.09 @ 9:01 amRoss – check out Big Shotz Tavern in Clemmons. We’ve been to several viewing parties there sponsored by the Forsyth chapter of the Alumni Assn.
Comment by yosef83 12.10.09 @ 11:44 amObservations from the griz depth chart…
first: their o-line is huge (which i had heard).
second: apparently the o-line is stealing the d-line’s lunch money because they’re sorta small. (DTs avg 269 and DEs avg 225)
I think this bodes well for our ground game.
Comment by section212 12.10.09 @ 12:45 pmhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxmzgAFKgDI Copy and Paste if your interested in finding out about about Washington Griz Stadium. Even an App Fan would appreciate this!
Comment by Welcome to Griz Nation 12.11.09 @ 4:07 pmWhile that video gets me excited, I have to say that the App State/LSU video is impressive too. Can’t wait until tomorrow. Two similar teams, tradition, and fan support. As a result I can’t help but like App State but I love the Griz. I’ll be there. Now that the Villains are in the chipper, there’s even more incentive to win tomorrow, not that it’s needed. Griz need to win to settle the bad blood b/n the teams. However, if App can pull it off, put the smack down on them for us.
