AE set to play .. promise
Tuesday November 24th 2009, 9:28 am

Get well ... we mean, really REALLY well .. soon

The burning questions which, quite honestly, have burned a bit too much this season – what’s the extent of AE’s injury? Will he play Saturday?

According to coach Moore, AE was set to play against the ‘Whee on Seniro Day but … well … his bad.

The plan was for Edwards to take a snap or two yesterday, on Senior Day, and then come out.

“He and I had a miscommunication during pregame,” Moore said. “I had said something to him and he said something like, ‘I’ll sit this one out.’ When he said that, I thought he was referring to not taking the two or three snaps or one snap that we talked about.

“When we came out of the locker room for the ballgame we just sent (Travaris) Cadet out there…. I messed that up….When he said he was going to sit it out he was referring to after those plays.”

So yes, AE is expected to play Saturday in Rematch I. But .. um … well … he hopes to be at somewhat full strength. /gulp!

Edwards said that his injury isn’t as bad as a knee injury last year which hampered him in the playoffs.

“I couldn’t even run at all last year,” he said. “I could have run (after returning to the game) at Elon, but it was the cutting that was giving me the problem.”

Moore said: “I feel pretty confident about it. They (the trainers) are pretty optimistic. I think the rest was good for him Saturday. We’ll just have to let Mother Nature take its course and wait and see.”

Edwards said he plans to return to practice today with a light workout.

“That will progress through the week,” he said. “We don’t want to re-injure it before Saturday.”

Time to plead help from a higher power!!!

What about Quick’s status???
Any news???

Comment by Jon 11.24.09 @ 9:47 am

Has the ticketing information been released yet for Saturday? I couldn’t find any information on goasu.

Comment by 'Neers06 11.24.09 @ 9:53 am

I have two extra tickets if anyone wants them. Section 206, Row LL. Email me at jbostian321@gmail.com.

Don’t worry, I will be there. I will be the obnoxious one…two rows behind you!

Comment by Jason 11.24.09 @ 10:03 am

Santa? I was thinking a little further up the chain. :)

Comment by Chard 11.24.09 @ 10:09 am

What time is the game saturday?

Comment by nomadb 11.24.09 @ 10:10 am

Comment by yosef83 11.24.09 @ 10:25 am

I’ll be getting rowdy back there with you Jason…206 PP as usual!

Comment by Seth 11.24.09 @ 10:35 am

I will be the rowdy one in 213 … the only rowdy one in 213 … the person you see next to me will be wife telling me to calm down that I am going to have a heart attack …

Comment by asu7 11.24.09 @ 10:42 am

i wish i could go to this game!!!!! man it sucks. I was going to go with my dad, but it turns out he has to work and I have stupid commitments to the wife. o well…i will be watching it on TV. If we win and UR wins, my butt will be up at UR!!

Comment by appirishmen 11.24.09 @ 10:53 am

I was feeling better about the knee until I read that. Sounds like optimism with some hot air. I feel like his mobility will be an issue, and I don’t expect him to be able to bowl folks over like he has done in the past. Man I am beginning to really hate Elon . . . injuries are part of the game, but 2 years in a row really sucks!

Comment by AppOrange 11.24.09 @ 10:58 am

Sometimes I get the feeling that Armanti and Coach Moore aren’t exactly the best of friends.

Comment by Flashman 11.24.09 @ 11:08 am

According to the observer, he went through practice yesterday w/ no issues, not a lot of news, but at least it’s good.

Comment by Dan 11.24.09 @ 11:17 am

by Flashman — “Sometimes I get the feeling that Armanti and Coach Moore aren’t exactly the best of friends.”

I dont’ get that feeling at all…..if that were the case, i doubt you would ever hear JM talk about how great a guy off the field AE is…..he would just stick to complimenting his known facts

Comment by nomadb 11.24.09 @ 11:18 am

***”known facts” meaning his incrdible play on the field…..

Comment by nomadb 11.24.09 @ 11:18 am

Trust me on this Flash…JM and AE are tight. Also, let’s not read anything into this situation guys. AE’s a little banged up, getting rest, healing…he’ll be ready.

Comment by Fleetwood App 11.24.09 @ 11:23 am

Fleetwood – i hear what you’re saying, but it’s a little tough to be too optimistic after what happened last year.

Comment by Dan 11.24.09 @ 11:29 am

Are they being so secretive to keep SC State in the dark?

Comment by Taylor 11.24.09 @ 11:34 am

“Are they being so secretive to keep SC State in the dark?”

my guess is yes. no need to show your cards if you don’t have too….maybe AE is just fine beyond being a little sore….just needed a rest week and TC needed the snaps…..who knows really….i’m glad SC State doesn’t know which team to prepare for

Comment by nomadb 11.24.09 @ 11:37 am

I completely agree w/ you Dan. It’s really hard for me to get excited about seeing AE play knowing the potential of him getting injured further. I can’t help but replay last years playoffs in my head. I pray I’m completely wrong and I would love to eat crow all the way to Nooga, but this is almost play by play of the week last year leading up to the first round game.

Comment by ASU in the QC 11.24.09 @ 11:44 am

Rather than any relations difficulties between JM and AE, my impression is that sometimes Coach Moore gets his facts confused. Or maybe just doesn’t retain all the facts.

Moore has often said (paraphrasing here) that if AE called at 3 am and wanted to go see his father, JM would take him. Given that, if they have a strained relationship, it must be a fairly recent strain. Either that, or Moore is one monumental hypocrite–which certainly doesn’t seem to fit his character and reputation.

Comment by DRM 11.24.09 @ 11:44 am

i think AE is fine but a little sore. im sure they are playing games to make sure that SCST doesnt know who to prepare for. He didnt play last week because why should he risk it? the whole week of rest did his knee good. i think AE will be fine. this injury is no where near as bad as it was last year.

Comment by appirishmen 11.24.09 @ 11:55 am

I think we can guess in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up faster.

There is a whole lot of guessing about certain relationships or facts on here that on game day don’t amount to a hill of beans. It’s time to get ugly and play some smashmouth Football.

I’ll be there 205 PP
Who’s with me?

Comment by herbstreitsucks formerly grudensucks 11.24.09 @ 11:56 am

Being secretive has nothing to do with it, he didn’t play at all against Western, even though he could have taken a few snaps. He has an injury from a week and a half ago, and they obviously are legitimately looking at it “day to day”.

Of course they aren’t going to show SC state any more than they have to, but the injury is not like a new 3rd down play or something that needs to be “secret”. SC state is going to prepare as if Armanti is playing saturday regardless.

We need to bring our A GAME saturday, because SCSU will.

Comment by APPSenior 11.24.09 @ 11:58 am

Just listened to JM’s teleconference from this morning. Said AE practiced fully and looked fine yesterday. Said he didn’t think he would be limited at all.

BEAT SC STATE!!

Comment by mark 11.24.09 @ 12:33 pm

Why wouldn’t our players decide to break a few of the Elon player’s bones due to the fact that they disabled Armanti again this year? It’s unbelievable. I think they cost us the National Championship last year.

Comment by App n Greenwood 11.24.09 @ 12:33 pm

I have never thought lower of a football team than I do of Elon. Gah I hope they beat Richmond so we can have a chance to destroy them twice in one year. And hey…maybe throw some late hits on Riddle’s knees just for fun. I mean our guys would never do that. It’s just a question of character and Elon has none. Any wayz….Beat SC State and has anyone notced the sililarities between their helmets and NC States?

Comment by Taylor 11.24.09 @ 12:40 pm

It will be a gameday decision, but in all likelihood, AE will be on the field Saturday. He threw the ball well in practice but the coaches limited (did not allow) his running. The difference this year is that we have a healthy stable of backs instead of relying on our 4th/5th string back.

Comment by tim 11.24.09 @ 12:45 pm

All you people up in the LL’s and JJ’s, lemme give you the first row student section view of the relationship between Jerry Moore and Armanti Edwards. AE plays the game like a robot sometimes, we all see that. Just calm, cool, making plays one at a time. I have never seen him get in coach Moore’s face for anything. This past week Armanti had his helmet on in the huddle for the first set of downs and was absolutely supposed to go in (why would Travaris be returning the punt if he was supposed to be going in at QB). Coach Moore screwed up, and Armanti was right there on top of him for a good 5-6 plays, talking to him after every single one. But he didnt yell, he didnt spike his helmet, he didnt kick over any gatorade coolers. He then left and talked to one of the other coaches for a while. I think that those actions showed the tremendous amount of respect he has for Coach. He was upset, yes, he wanted to start on his senior day. But he didnt freak. And just a casual observation on the injury report… and im not a doctor so i dont know how to read this, but the brace he had on saturday was alot shorter and less bulky than the one he had last year in the SCST game.

Comment by mgood89 11.24.09 @ 12:51 pm

AE has been committed to give us the fans, his coaches and teammates his very best each and every time he steps out on the field. He will do no less this Saturday, its the playoffs. No player on this team has as much desire to play and give his all! 100% healthy or less, he is tough and wants to lead his team through the playoffs. But, it takes an entire team effort to put it all together. Everybody has to perform at their highest level. Leave nothing on the field!
GO APPS!

Comment by Striker 11.24.09 @ 1:52 pm

I have tons of respect for AE, Coach and the entire team. AE is probably the coolest and calmest football player I have ever seen. I hope he gets to play and is healthy enough to play his best. When AE is at his best we play on a whole different level. Quite frankly if AE is near 100% I do not see anyone beating us. If the injury is worse than what we are hearing then it is going to be hard to get no. 4.

Is anyone else hoping we play UR? I am. I want to go to Richmond and witness their season end as they did to us last year. It is only about a 3 hour driver from Greensboro!

Comment by asu7 11.24.09 @ 2:09 pm

mgood89 … how in the world can you get all that out of your observations of where AE was standing and who he was talking to. How could you possibly know what they where talking about? And how can you interpret this as AE being upset? Sorry but I don’t get it.

Comment by Yosef77 11.24.09 @ 2:12 pm

We have to beat a very tough and determined SC STATE team first though!

Here is hoping AE is not limited in his duties and his full wrath of football power can be loosed on the them bullpuppies from SC.

Comment by asu7 11.24.09 @ 2:13 pm

Im just saying he was right there and ive never seen him talk to coach like that. He just looked upset. I know you can tell when people are upset. Id be upset if i didnt play on my senior day… and acted out more than he did

Comment by A.Freeman 11.24.09 @ 2:35 pm

So AE not playing was a “miscommunication” on Saturday? That’s complete BS. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was (and everyone else who was at the ROCK) that he didn’t even take ONE snap! I mean, c’mon! The best player in ASU history doesn’t get his due on Senior Day?! I know he had an ovation at the beginning when they lined up all the Seniors but, DAMN!

I have to think there’s more to it that just an “oversight” by coach Moore. And hell, when it was realized that it was a “miscommunication”, why didn’t he come in and take his snap then?! I fully appreciate wanting him to be 100% for the playoffs but AE and his fans were cheated out of a special moment on Saturday. Period.

Comment by Garrett 11.24.09 @ 2:44 pm

Ok, I only feel a little bit better about that now… but didn’t want to end on such a negative note. GO APPS! Let’s make one more road trip to Appanooga and fill one more spot in the trophy case! App fans have witnessed something truly special and bringing home one more NCAA trophy would cap off an unbelievable 4 years!

Comment by Garrett 11.24.09 @ 2:51 pm

anybody else remember at the begining of the season there was speculation that AE would have to sit out a game for violation of team rules for something that happened off the field over the summer? wonder if that’s where the “communication” breakdown came from?

Comment by nomadb 11.24.09 @ 3:03 pm

Comment by nomadb 11.24.09 @ 3:15 pm

You guys are funny.

I specifically looked for AE on Saturday he was ready to go in the game and when Cadet went in AE looked confused. He had his helmet on and ready to go. After our first two offensive sets he took the helmet off and looked a little disgusted. I don’t think Jerry was lying about that.

Wouldn’t it be funny if everything we are hearing from the reports and lockerroom were true?

It doesn’t matter who plays QB saturday any team would prepare for AE because if they did they would be preparing for the best. When you prepare for the best you have to bring the best game no matter what qb the defense faces. All you conspiracy theorists need to find a different blog. I’m tired of weeding through your useless comments.

Yeah I’m confused. What was the girlfreinds name. I think I know her too.

AE’s 2 year old daughter told my daughter that AE was really not human, but a super created being that cannot be injured and can play only as good as he is programmed. Can you believe a 2 year old said that.

Must have been a good programmer.

This article was out yesterday. I feel that he is in much better shape than last year, but I am still nervious until I see him out there and moving well.

Comment by Gwaltineer 11.24.09 @ 3:44 pm

I think SC St is better than last year and not having CoCo still hurts. But this year we have a true 1st string RB, Armanti is healthier, and our D can hold these teams to 3 scores. I think we win this game, but have to play all 4 quarters.

Comment by Gwaltineer 11.24.09 @ 3:46 pm

Am I remembering it wrong or just being a pessimist or did they not say he was fine last year too?

Comment by Dan 11.24.09 @ 3:46 pm

Dan’s already chimed in. I’m reading, but really have nothing to say.

Except that I agree with Garrett that, whatever the reason, it was a huge shame that AE didn’t get to step on the field Saturday. I rather doubt there is any more to that unfortunate event than Moore said, but even so, it was a major blunder on his part.

Comment by DRM 11.24.09 @ 3:47 pm

Crap, I didn’t make Herbie’s list. Looks like I will not be able to go to the game this weekend . . . you all can find me hanging in my closet, belt around my neck, wearing nothing but my new AppFan.com sticker on my forehead. Win one for me boys . . .

Comment by AppOrange 11.24.09 @ 3:48 pm

To be perfectly clear, by ” . . . major blunder on his part,” I mean Coach Moore’s. A very disappointing mistake.

You gotta believe the decision to play AE or not weighs heavy on Coach. He made a poor decision last year which really cost us the game. Of course, AE is going to say “I wanna play”. But, if the injury is bad enough, making the decision (this year) to sit him or play him is probably tougher than last year!!

I hope he’s healthy!

Comment by Jason 11.24.09 @ 4:12 pm

Comment by Dan 11.24.09 @ 4:27 pm

Hey Greenwood, the reason our players can’t bust up the opposing team is that WE WOULD BE PENALIZED FOR IT!!!! Sometimes this year ( and at The Rock too!) it seemed that we really got screwed on some calls, and I’m not making excuses. I can remember the Samford game as one right of the top of my head. I remember some of you guys talking about one particular Referee and how it seems that he has issues with ASU. I just hope we don’t see him and his crew for the playoffs, and that our Apps can keep things in check for four more games!

Thanks DRM, I was just getting ready to post an “I can’t believe none of you are as upset as I am about AE not playing on Saturday” comment!

Am I making a bigger deal out of this than is necessary? Maybe. But I don’t think so.

I don’t mean to beat a dead horse… It just doesn’t make sense… I can accept a “miscommunication” about him not starting… I cannot accept him not taking one F-ing snap the whole game! Even just a handoff to Devon Moore!

Deep breaths… deep breaths…

Comment by Garrett 11.24.09 @ 4:36 pm

Garrett, DRM, all others pissed about AE not playing – we have at least 1 more home game and i’m sure that will be more special for AE than his next to last home game.

Comment by Dan 11.24.09 @ 4:38 pm

Except that there’s no way we’ll have 30K in the stands Saturday, and no way there will be nearly as many students there. Plus, what should have been his last regular season game was designated senior day.

Comment by DRM 11.24.09 @ 4:40 pm

true, we can always hope for a larger send off in KBS west.

Comment by Dan 11.24.09 @ 4:43 pm

I know, you’re right Dan, there is one more home game… but it was Senior Day! And admittedly, I am more upset about it because I can’t be at the game against SCST so, it was my last home game of the AE era. And I’m kind of a naustalgic guy anyway so that’s not helping matters either

Comment by Garrett 11.24.09 @ 4:44 pm

Garrett, yet another reason I think we should pull for Elon, distasteful as that feels. Then, assuming we take care of SC State, there will probably be two more AE home games.

Comment by DRM 11.24.09 @ 4:48 pm

GOOOOOO PHOENIX!!!

Comment by Garrett 11.24.09 @ 4:51 pm

I’m pulling for Richmond. I’m more of a vengeful type and it would all have a nice symmetry to beat Richmond away and than, hopefully, one last home game for AE. That being said, take care of SC State on Saturday.

Comment by AppClassOf09 11.24.09 @ 5:06 pm

No doubt we won’t have 30K there Saturday, but I can guarantee I’m gonna yell as loud as I can (to attempt to make up for the folks not there)!

GIVE ‘EM HELL!!

Comment by Jason 11.24.09 @ 5:06 pm

Yeah where is Jamey. He’s been mute this week. Maybe he is on holiday early.

Well we know one student that won’t be there this week (the kid shot on Saturday night) we need to pray for his family. Losing one especially a child during the holidays is really tough. Win this one for the Derby kid.

Comment by mgood89 11.24.09 @ 7:53 pm

Thanks for the link herbiesux. I just don’t see anybody else out there who deserves this award more than Armanti Edwards. I don’t buy that crap about not having back-to-back winners. That’s for those dumba$$ Heisman voters. If he doesn’t get it, there’s definitely a media bias against ASU.

Comment by yosef83 11.24.09 @ 8:01 pm

I agree with yosef83… unless Dominic Randolph wins. I could see a pretty strong case for him.

Comment by mgood89 11.24.09 @ 8:10 pm

“Edwards is the FCS active career leader in touchdowns responsible for (135) and passing efficiency and became the first player in FCS history to compile 9,000 career passing yards and 4,000 yards rushing.”

I still can’t believe the promo piece on GoASU understated AE’s TD responsibility, and by 20!

Comment by DRM 11.24.09 @ 8:42 pm

Hands down Edwards deserves the Payton again. No one can touch him. Also, I know it stinks that he didn’t at least take a snap Saturday but you gotta admire his humility. I have always been impressed with AE’s attitude and poise. He’s quite, unassuming, and doesn’t point to himself. He let’s his stuff on the field tell the story. That’s not seen a lot these days with idiots like Owens and Ochowhatshisname. Think about it…have you ever seen Edwards thump his own chest?

Geez I hope we pound SC State.

Comment by Fleetwood App 11.24.09 @ 8:52 pm

if Randolph and Holy Cross knock off Nova then I think it will come down to he and AE. I see them as being the two leading candidates.

I thought it was the week leading up to Nooga. However I’m not sure when the votes have to be turned in. I thought they have to be turned in before the playoff games start. I don’t think they can be judged by their playoff performances.

I would have thought that Hudgins would be in the running against Armanti but he was a big wuss and flop when we played them. He was sucking wind.

Did ya’ll notice that Ryan Perriloux was on the ballot. He’s the kid LSU kicked off the team. He’s got some respectable numbers, however I don’t agree that kids that transfered from FBS teams that were potential starters should be on the ballot.

Comment by herbstreitsucks 11.24.09 @ 10:15 pm

It’s my understanding, the ballots are filled out this week. It’s based on regular season statistics. Otherwise, Corey Lynch would’ve won the Buchanan award two years ago. He was all over the field and deserved the award!

Comment by Jason 11.24.09 @ 10:25 pm

Correct. The playoffs have no bearing on the awards.

Comment by hapapp 11.24.09 @ 10:45 pm

Yep, they vote now then they’re awarded on Dec. 17, the day before the championship on Fri. Dec. 18. Armanti’s gonna be busy those two days.

Comment by yosef83 11.24.09 @ 11:12 pm

so how many scouts will come to AE’s pro day workout?

Comment by Ry_ATO 11.24.09 @ 11:33 pm

Im 100% with Garrett on being piiisssed about no AE on sat, I drove in from DC specifically to see him play for the 1st time, I have been an APP fan since 85 when I was accepted there, I didnt goto school at that time but loved the uni.. I was shocked when they announced him as a starter but then he didnt go out to play.. now I can only hope app st wins and richmond wins, because I am only 1.5 hrs from uri and will def go and see that game!!! jerry really dropped the ball on that mix up and on senior day?? unacceptable…. thank god they won for awhile it looked like they were going to lose, was so close to a 14-3 wcu lead there before halftime….

Comment by Rob 11.25.09 @ 4:15 am

I hate that Rob. Maybe you’ll get your wish next weekend. Or maybe we’ll all see him play on Sunday’s next year. Who knows. Scouts need to remember he went into the Big House as a Sophmore and blew their house down. The boy knows how to win.

I already know that the Jets have been looking at him, even attended some games. They were very impressed. Some have been coming to look at our Defense guys as well.

Comment by herbstreitsucks 11.25.09 @ 8:25 am

How mad would everyone be if Armanti had gone in to play an offensive series or two and ended up hurting his knee?

I guess all you whiners would have happy though since you would have been able to clap for him – get real.

This is about winning games and winning championships – all of which provide ample opportunities for us fans to show our appreciation.

If the only reason you are upset that Armanti didn’t play vs. Western is because you can’t come to the playoff game then you should be ashamed of yourself – not upset with Coach Moore.

Everyone who knows me (parents, wife, etc..) knows that come ‘hell or high water’ if Appalachian is playing football I will be at the game – period!

That’s how you support AE and the team – not by showing up to one game so you can stand up and give a golf clap and then leave early to go eat.

Get your priorities straight people.

Comment by appfantoo 11.25.09 @ 8:32 am

I have to say that the “miscommunication” explanation doesn’t ring true to me. Sounds a lot like “I’m resigning to spend more time with my family….,”the idiom of choice when one gets fired.

Maybe Armanti was hurt, maybe he could have played, but I’m not buying “miscommunication.” Don’t we have a whole department at ASU (Clayton’s major) dedicated to stamping out such? Maybe St. Jerry of the Sacred Rock should enroll.

Perhaps Jerry knew that the home crowd would have one more chance to see Armanti, but it would have been nice to see him at least take a snap on Senior Day.

Comment by appnaysayer 11.25.09 @ 8:35 am

It would have been nice to see Trey Elder get a snap on Senior day as well, but that didn’t happen. He made up for it though on his own at the championship game when he ran one all the way down the field for the final score. He was a great kid.

On Senior day that year we had a whole 4 rows screaming Trey, Trey, Trey, yet they never put him in. He came through for us when Armanti was hurt after the Michigan game. He proved to be a good backup, better than what we seen Saturday. Trey would have blown WCU away.

Comment by herbstreitsucks 11.25.09 @ 9:09 am

Easy there appfantoo… I’ve been to plenty of games over the past 7 years since I graduated and am not “ashamed of myself” in the least for not being able to make a playoff game.

And I’m not upset for myself or the rest of the fans as much as I am for Armanti and his family. It’s about showing love on Senior Day for the best player we’ve ever had the pleasure of watching… not a “golf clap”. I’m sorry that you can’t appreciate that.

And get over yourself, this is not a pissing contest on who is the bigger ASU fan.

Comment by Garrett 11.25.09 @ 9:27 am

If anyone wants to prove their “fanhood” just go on over to the Mountaineer Message Board.

Comment by yosef83 11.25.09 @ 9:45 am

I hear you Garrett – not necessarily aiming my urine at you – primarily the steady stream of those who exit the stadium starting right before halftime regardless of the score. Especially last Saturday when we were losing to the Whee!

Those are the folks that don’t have a real interest in the success of the team and if they only showed up to clap for Armanti on Senior Day and didn’t even care if we won we’d be better off if they wouldn’t come at all.

Generally speaking, these are the same 12-15,000 “fans” that won’t make the playoff game a priority this weekend.

But at least the line will be shorter for the ‘pissing contest’ in the men’s room.

Comment by appfantoo 11.25.09 @ 9:48 am

Wait a minute – is this a pissin contest over who thinks AE shoud’ve played last week? Or is it a pissin contest over who will or won’t be at the playoff game this week? Or is it a pissin contest over who leaves early from games?

Comment by yosef83 11.25.09 @ 9:57 am

D. All of the above.

Comment by appfantoo 11.25.09 @ 10:01 am

i noticed alot of fans leaving early at halftime, and with 5 mins left in game… sure it was chilly but that was a surprise… bottom line is they didnt need AE to go in there and get hurt, but it would of been the right thing to have him go in for a few snaps, then leave the field to a standing O..
whoever screwed that up deprived the whole asu fan base that moment with the best ever app player….

Comment by Rob 11.25.09 @ 11:12 am

You know what is realy going to mess AE up? The Bulldog defense. 34-6. SC State on to Round 2.

Comment by scstatericardo 11.25.09 @ 11:19 am

Did you say the same thing last year ricardo?

Comment by Joe 11.25.09 @ 11:22 am

16 points? That’s what you’re counting on? Ford is going to run for 400 and 5 TDs. AE out in the first quarter with a pulled ovary.

Comment by scstatericardo 11.25.09 @ 11:26 am

Put the crack pipe down, ricardo.

Comment by yosef83 11.25.09 @ 11:28 am

Nope, we’re counting on having our first string RB instead of our 5th and a better defense..

I am not taking SC State lightly though — it will be a good game. But to say its going to be 34-6 is ignorance..

Comment by Joe 11.25.09 @ 11:30 am

You’re just jealous because Will Ford acutally has a future playing football. You have idea what you’re messing with. We are riding into town and taking over Boone!

Comment by scstatericardo 11.25.09 @ 11:40 am

ricardo – have you taught your coach how to call timeouts yet?

Comment by yosef83 11.25.09 @ 11:43 am

Well its a damn good thing football is a team sport and it doesn’t depend on one player..

It will be a good game and we all know Will Ford is the real deal..

Comment by Joe 11.25.09 @ 11:46 am

i dont doubt they will take over boone. these hbcu crowds are pretty crazy. especially if they’re band comes this year and we have our typical 14k thanksgiving crowd.
i agree the game will be close and even more intense than last year (sc state will not be intimidated by the mystique of the brew anymore, wanting revenge, etc..) but cmon ricardo…..
34-6?? i dont think so…i think the game will be in the 30’s…37-34?? and even as an appfan i will be honest and think it can go either way.

Comment by parking lot 11.25.09 @ 11:57 am

How do we not know what we’re messing with? We played you last year.

Comment by clayton 11.25.09 @ 11:58 am

SC State 14 – 38 versus So Carolina–24-point loss
App State 24 – 29 versus E Carolina (without AE)–5-point loss

South Carolina is better than East Carolina, but not by 19 points.

Comment by DRM 11.25.09 @ 12:13 pm

With acknowledgement, again, that few of us place much credence in the Sagarin rankings, these tidbits based on the 11/21/09 ratings:

SoCon’s worst team (WCU) would be fourth best in the MEAC. The top six SoCon teams (all except Cit, Woff and Western) would rank ahead of the second best MEAC team. However, SC State would rank third in the SoCon, from six to eight points behind ASU (ignoring home field advantage).

Comment by DRM 11.25.09 @ 12:41 pm

DRM loves the facts so here’s one for the big SCST fan. Last time App held to less than a TD for a game was Nov. 5, 2005 at LSU. That was pre AE and we went on to win a national championship. Don’t hold your breath for 6, we will most likely surpass that in the first quarter. As a matter of fact in the championship era 2005-pres. we are averaging 35.9 ppg with our 13-1 record.

Comment by Mgood89 11.25.09 @ 1:11 pm

^in the playoffs

Comment by Mgood89 11.25.09 @ 1:26 pm

Let’s expand that record to 17-1!

Comment by DRM 11.25.09 @ 2:18 pm

Hey, scstatericardo, I look forward to seeing Mr. Ford running the ball on Sundays next year, just as I’ve enjoyed watching Mr. Hightower (Richmond, now Arizona Cardinals) after he finished his college career here in Boone in the 2007 playoffs.

Comment by Carbine 11.25.09 @ 4:15 pm

ricardo- “You have idea what you’re messing with.” One I know proper English, and secondly we all don’t have AN idea of what we’re messing with, we KNOW! We know we beat you, and we know it’s happening again!
