After an OT loss at Arkansas Friday, the App State bball remains on the road tonight – “The No. 16 Cardinals try to win for the third time in as many days and open 4-0 for the first time in four seasons when they host Appalachian State.” The Apps are 1-2 in D1 play.
We’re keeping it close right. Down 34-28 with 3 to play till halftime. Let’s Go App
Comment by Shane 11.23.09 @ 7:45 pmBASKETBALL!
Comment by clayton 11.23.09 @ 7:53 pmNot a bad showing in the first half.
Comment by Jon 11.23.09 @ 8:05 pmNot a good one either. Louisville is up by 15 now. The only thing that might save us is if Slick Rick Pitino has a rendezvous with his mistress at a nearby pizza parlor.
Comment by Flashman 11.23.09 @ 8:16 pmLouisville pouring it on 54-35. Donald Sims has 16 of ASU’s points.
Comment by Flashman 11.23.09 @ 8:26 pmDid Pitino charge his mistress “expenses” to the university credit card?
Comment by appnaysayer 11.23.09 @ 8:30 pmI think Slick Rick just got caught in flagrante with her at a local pizza parlor. Then she tried to blackmail him for money and that’s when the whole thing broke.
Comment by Flashman 11.23.09 @ 8:34 pmI thought maybe he followed in the footsteps of the guy who was the Alabama football coach for about a day and a half. Can’t remember his name, but he charged his prostitute to the university account.
BTW, are the announcers blood relatives of Pitino? Geez, what a bunch of homers.
Comment by appnaysayer 11.23.09 @ 8:38 pmNaysayer – that was Mike Price.
Comment by appfantoo 11.23.09 @ 9:03 pmIt got ugly in the 2nd. Apps lose 80-53
Comment by Shane 11.23.09 @ 9:03 pmnot too bad all things considered. we started to take crap shots in the second. we just could not compete with their depth. i am proud they kept it close for a while.
Comment by appirishmen 11.23.09 @ 9:35 pmYeah we were in good shape until right before the half. We should be solid in the SoCon.
Comment by Shane 11.23.09 @ 10:05 pmEmbarrassing.
Comment by A.Freeman 11.23.09 @ 10:13 pmenter the freeman bash……NOW!
Comment by A.Freeman 11.23.09 @ 10:14 pmI wish we could’ve kept it closer though… we were much more rested than they were. They were playing thier 3rd game in as many days. They beat Morgan State (who we’re playing in Boone Saturday) by only 9 pts. They did wipe out Arkansas by 30 in their opener, however.
Basically they’re a really strong team but we should’ve been able to keep it in single digits I think. We were jackin’ 3’s all night. At one point I saw the box score near halftime and we were shooting 33% from the floor total but almost 50% from 3 point range. That’s not gonna cut it!
Comment by appstategrad2008 11.23.09 @ 10:14 pmThey also beat ETSU by 13 I believe.
Comment by hapapp 11.23.09 @ 11:11 pmAppfantoo, I guess Alabama doesn’t care about prostittutes, but they draw the line at using the university credit card! Saban cracked me up earlier in the season when he said he’d “learned a lot about gunshot wounds” as Alabama’s coach.
Watched part of bball game on computer. Agree that we shot a lot of 3s. But Louisville had us outsized and out-quicked. Wer’e competitive, but still have a ways to go. Everyone should come out to the Holmes Center after football on Sat.
Comment by appnaysayer 11.24.09 @ 6:55 amthe buzz era is in full swing, the excitement is palpable!!!!
Comment by alex 11.24.09 @ 7:59 amAs Clayton says. Plus, NOVEMBER!
Comment by DRM 11.24.09 @ 9:25 amBuzz should have sh!tcanned about half the roster and brought in a bunch of new players but that would have required work on the recruiting trail and he wanted to play golf. So now we’re stuck with bunch of leftovers from the Fancher regime. The year will be long and the losses will be many.
Comment by Flashman 11.24.09 @ 11:04 amI could have watched this game but, didn’t know it.
Comment by clayton 11.24.09 @ 12:27 pmFlashman, you either do not know much about basketball or have not watched the players on the team — there is NOTHING BUT TALENT on the team. The problem Fancher had was getting them to play together, making their egos drop, and playing a team game rather than it being all about individual stats..
If Buzz can do that, this team can and will do a lot.. the problem is, I don’t think even Dean Smith or John Wooden could do that..
Comment by Joe 11.24.09 @ 12:58 pmOn the other hand, no one on our roster would have been recruited by Wooden or Smith.
Comment by DRM 11.24.09 @ 1:15 pmJoe, you just proved my point for me. I never said there wasn’t talent on this team. I said this team won’t win games and you provided me with specific reasons as to why. Thanks.
Comment by Flashman 11.24.09 @ 1:41 pmsorry boys…but who really cares about BBall right now….its playoff time!!!
Comment by Dcocny 11.24.09 @ 6:33 pmNot a Buzz fan, but I have to admit (in the interest of honesty) that he has this team playing well. They’re passing the ball, looking inside, and jacking fewer 3s. Those that are taken are within the scheme of the offense. And he doesn’t mind getting on them on the bench when they screw up. He’s also interested in their academic progress and that cuts a lot of ice with me.
I think we’ll be competitive in the SoCon, maybe a contender in our division. And I care about basketball. It is, as Dennis Hopper said in “Hoosiers,” “the greatest game ever invented.” Baseball, of course, wasn’t invented but rather adapted from an old game called “rounders.”
Comment by Appnaysayer 11.24.09 @ 7:22 pmFootball (as in soccer) is the greatest TEAM game ever invented. Out of that, with several twists and turns, came (American) football which, at the collegiate level and next to national politics, is the most interesting and intriguing US sport. Besides, his role in “Hoosiers” to the contrary, Dennis Hopper is much better at playing an ass.
I agree with Dcocny–it’s November, football is still alive, so who cares about basketball?
Comment by DRM 11.24.09 @ 8:47 pmOkay, I’m no movie buff. At the risk of raising Midwest’s blood pressure (and that of some others on here), I’ll admit that the last movie I saw in a theater was “Inconvenient Truth.” And that really isn’t a movie. Prior to that, I can’t remember . . .
Anyway, I read Hopper, and typed Hopper, all the time thinking of and mentally picturing Gene Hackman. Realized my mistake after I had shut my PC down, but it wasn’t worth rebooting to correct last night. Besides, the actor and his persona are completely tangential to the principal point–no way basketball is the greatest game, be it invented, concocted, hatched, or adapted.
Comment by DRM 11.25.09 @ 8:41 amFootball=overweight men running into each other.
Baseball=sheer perfection
Soccer=at least as interesting as America’s Cup racing and/or watcing paint dry.
Comment by appnaysayer 11.25.09 @ 8:52 amDon’t you dare disparage the America’s Cup like that!
Comment by Dan 11.25.09 @ 9:00 amYou’re 100 hundred percent wrong on 67 percent of your statements, Naysayer. But in your most revered sport, .333 ain’t bad as long as you’re talking about batting averages.
As to watching paint dry . . . baseball??? They just substitute watching grass grow. Same conclusion–sheer boredom. At least football’s fat men and soccer’s prima donnas are MOVING most of the time; baseball is the ultimate game of inaction. And your “thinking man’s game” defense is grossly overstated, to the point of representing a 1.000 batting average of wishful thinking.
