Team A is a former I-AA FCS champion who once shocked the world by upsetting a ranked I-A team to start the 2007 season. It failed to repeat either feat in ‘08, and was intercepted repeatedly in a season-ending playoff defeat. But most everybody is coming back, including the top player in FCS country.
Team B is a usual FBS afterthought who once shocked the world by upsetting two ranked I-A teams to start the 2008 season. It failed to repeat that feat, losing three straight, and fumbled away a 10-win season in its bowl game. But most everybody is coming back, including possibly its most veteran QB.
Teams A and B collide on opening weekend 2009. One will play to prove September 1, 2007 was no fluke. The other to prove January 2, 2009 was.
Mountaineers. Pirates. Here’s what the state paper has to say today.
A loss to the Mountaineers, which is entirely possible, would zap ECU of much confidence and could leave the team in a panic mode.
So much pressure already, and it’s only 242 days, 20 hours, 36 minutes, and 12 seconds to kick off …. 11 seconds … 10 seconds … 9 ….
how are they handling tickets? I’m guessing we will be able to get our allotment through the ASU ticket office like in previous seasons? AppFan, make sure you keep those of us who are not in Boone updated on the ticket sales. i bought Chatty tickets and didn’t get to go, I’m not gonna let that feeling be repeated in 242 days!! GO ‘NEERS!

Comment by Geoff 01.05.09 @ 6:47 pmGeoff, only speculation at this point. Dowdy-Ficklen seats 43,000 and realistically we could travel 15,000 easy. That being said, they wouldn’t allow almost a third of their stadium to be filled by the opponent’s fans, even if this is an in-state game, and a renewal of a rivalry. Heck, when UNC and State travel to Greenville I would imagine they get 5,000 seats max. That place is a tough environment for opponents and they need to preserve their home field advantage. I bet a lot of App fans will make the trip just for the sake of it, even with no chance of getting in the gates.
Comment by dynast3 01.05.09 @ 7:13 pmTHE MARCHING MOUNTAINEERS WILL BE THERE…in brand new uniforms! That will give us 320+ STRONG, LOUD VOICES on top of all that awesome APP SPIRIT!
I cannot wait for this game! I’ve still got so much pent-up energy and frustration that’s been hanging on since the last game. I’m sure our players do, too so by the time that first game gets here…WOW! Bring on those PieRats! GO APPS!
Comment by Mtnr Mom 01.06.09 @ 9:20 amIt’s a joke to have the game at EZU. I feel the game would sell out the Panthers stadium and give more money to both programs.
Comment by Nathan 01.06.09 @ 10:07 amJudging by the amount of people I saw fill the seats at BofA Stadium for UNC v. WVU, I think we could at least get a solid 50,000-60,000 if the game was played there. I don’t know that we could quite reach a sell-out because the students would have to pay. But I definitely think that 55,000 is attainable.
