There’s a new Iron Man in town

Robert Downey Jr has nothing on youDid you know Pierre Banks has a blog? We didn’t know Pierre Banks had a blog. We knew he was a banger. We knew he was a bumper. But a blogger?

/deep inhalation of pride

We’ve always really loved that guy.

His latest entry concerns his own personal mark in the NCAA record book – most games played. Ever.

On a personal note, I set an NCAA record by playing in 60 college football games. Like my man Sam Cooke said “It’s been a long time coming” but it’s been a great ride and I hope we can go ahead and win four* more games this season and get another ring.

Wow. 60 games. The last 58 of which he’s started. (He was redshirted after two appearances in 2004).

He’s started Every Game of this historic run of three straight national titles. He’s the Ben Franklin to our Histor3! Or would that be Jefferson? (Debate amongst yourselves)

Consider what this App State great has accomplished. While logging 60 games he’s:

- Earned three straight national titles
- Stared down two future NFL starting QBs in two playoffs wins. Plus this guy.
- Sacked a Wolverine
- Lost once – just once – at home
- Poised to be among the top five tacklers in school history
- Named a 2007 All-American
- Turned streamers into screamers
- Earned a bachelor’s degree, with master’s almost done
- Hit a 3.91 GPA .. in graduate school

And, just because this stat line never ceases to amaze, he’s the 16th of 17 children. That sounds as impressive as 58 starts in 60 games.

Here’s hoping it grows to 63.

*Typo. This entry was posted prior to Saturday’s game, which was his actual 60th

Pierre Banks truly is a model student athlete on the field and in the classroom. As a fellow Durhamite….congrats Pierre…we enjoy watching you every Sat. and hope you get a shot on playing on Sundays!

What a great model for aspiring high school student-athletes. He’s going to walk out of ASU with the exact same 2 degrees that I got from ASU…would like to have a conversation with him

pierre is the man.i had a class with him and he is a very articulate fellow and seemed like a great guy. not to mention his ability and consistency out on the field.

Pierre has been my favorite Mountaineer since i found out he’s from Durham and went to the same high school I did. I read about that and immediately started checking on him to see what he was like off the field and have continually been impressed. Gotta love the kid, here’s hoping he goes out w/ 4 rings!

Yes sir Mr. Banks, we are entertained

Between Pierre, Murrell, and Lynch I think we have the smartest defensive superstars in the history of college football. The story about his career flashing before his eyes before the JMU fumble is the best.

Comment by clayton 12.02.08 @ 8:40 pm

And yes he belongs in the same conversation as Murrell and Lynch as far as best defensive players during histor3.

way to go pierre! a phenomenal player and leader on the field and a role model in the class room and kids! there are a lot of athletes (college and pro) who could learn a lot from this guy!

16th of 17 – oh, my uterus hurts for his mama! But you can tell she did a good job with him – look at what a man he is at 22, imagine the impact he’ll make during the rest of his days!

Step aside Obama, Pierre is in the HOUSE!!!

Comment by Appfanmidwest 12.02.08 @ 10:36 pm

Pierre is a class act. He is a leader by example. He is Mr. Hustle on the field. I know he has been a great leader for Roman and Smith, quite a Dream team in the linebacker positions. Thanks Pierre for all you do, have done and will do!

Pierre, it’s an honor and a joy to know you. I’m really going to miss you next year, but for now…I’ll enjoy every single minute of your next three games. Bring home another trophy, #31! I’m so proud of you!

Step aside Obama? What does that mean? I don’t mean that to be a smart-alec, I just don’t get it.

Comment by APPsenior 12.03.08 @ 2:23 am

Yeah, what are you saying with the Obama step aside, midwest? I’m with APPsenior on this.

Comment by Mike 12.03.08 @ 9:57 am

Appsenior is simply addressing the fact that Pierre is the man and that because of his intellect and leadership qualities is on he way to being the next black President.
