Ya gotta feel for Richie “The Man” Williams. This is NOT a season to remember.

The “much loved” Hamilton Tiger-Cat did indeed get some CFL starts this season, and led the Ti-Cats to their only two wins. But he’s since been sent back to the bench. That’s because the team’s new coach is thinking baseball, not football.

Seriously. He wants to make Richie the football equivalent of a reliever. (Well, he can strike the pose)

“We need to see him (Porter) play, but it doesn’t mean Richie won’t play either. Quinton could come in and play a series or two and Richie could finish the game. At some point between now and the end of the season, we need to get Quinton some valuable reps when the game means something.”

Adding injury to insult, not only is Richie being robbed of playing time on the field, he’s being robbed of clothes off it.

Former Appalachian quarterback Richie Williams, who led the Mountaineers to their first national title in 2005 and is the school’s all-time leader in passing yards and total offense, was the victim of a theft at his Charlotte-area apartment last week. Williams, who spends much of the year in Canada as a member of the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats, lost many possessions in the theft, including both of his ASU jerseys from the 2005 championship season.

ASU fans are encouraged to be on the lookout for the stolen jerseys, especially around the Charlotte area or on online auction sites such as Ebay. Anyone with any information on the theft is asked to call the University City Patrol Division of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police at (704) 432-3900.

So be on the lookout for No. 7, who’s still No. 1 to me.
