The Battle Royal in the Bayou officially a Classic

Here’s a report on the changes for tomorrow.

Due to Hurricane Gustav, LSU has decided to move up the kickoff for Saturday’s season-opening football game against Appalachian St. to 10:00 a.m.

The game is being moved up because of safety concerns from potential evacuations, said Charles Zewe, LSU spokesman.

The season-opening game featuring the 2007 BCS national champions was originally scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.

The game will be televised on ESPN Classic.

Given the packed schedule on ESPN and ESPN2 at noon, there’s really no where else to put it. Time to dig out the dish.

THE BIG QUESTION. With such an early start time, do we still get free water? Will they make it coffee now?

MORE DETAILS ON WHAT’S GOING ON. The game will be played, but it appears the state will be in a hurry to get it done with.

Baton Rouge, which is one hour inland from New Orleans, is virtually sold out, said Theresa Overby, a spokeswoman for the Baton Rouge Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. First responders, government agencies and contractors have booked nearly all the available rooms not already taken by people involved in and watching the LSU game.

And, so you know, the party is still on in Nah’Lins.

GOASU.COM WAKES UP. With a comment from Coach Moore.

“The impending situation is certainly more important than football, so we aren’t upset in the least by the time change” Appalachian head coach Jerry Moore said. “We’ll be ready to play tomorrow morning and will keep the people along the Gulf Coast in our prayers.”

THIS IS COOL. The game will also be online at ESPN360.com.

The game will also be available on ESPN’s online platform, ESPN360.

It’s on the schedule.

Thanks for the up-to-date info! You’re way ahead of the folks on goasu.com. No disrespect, but do they have one of the students managing the site part-time?

I have Classic, but I’ll be nervous until I see the game show up on my on-screen guide…actually until airtime.

I complained to ESPN about the move to Classic instead of ESPN2. I think with a little fanagaling they could make ESPN2 work. Let em know what you think. Effed by ESPN once again.

Just ordered ESPN Classic from Cox Cable! Thankfully I could get it quickly and easily today…

“Effed by ESPN once again”

I think ESPN has been pretty darn good to and for ASU. I don’t have a problem with being on Classic.

We get ESPN Classic so Syracuse and Northwestern get ESPN2 as scheduled. Nice.

I was referring more to the shatty coverage we received during the playoffs last year. I really think that ESPN could fit us in on ESPN2 given the hype…or maybe The Ocho. I don’t have Classic and unfortunately Charter Cable service around here is absolutely awful. Just a little frustrated Zen. Guess I’ll have another Hateorade.

Comment by Fletch 08.29.08 @ 2:56 pm

Hopefully, the broadcast channel won’t affect the coverage. I think we’ll get a well produced game – too bad only 5 people will be able to see it.

Comment by Danny 08.29.08 @ 3:07 pm

I’d think ESPN would rather have the game on ESPN2, it’s bound to attract more viewers that Syracuse/Northwestern. I’m cool with ESPN Classic since I get it, but having the game in HD would be pretty clutch.

Comment by Mike 08.29.08 @ 3:09 pm

This sucks. No HD for the game and 11am?! DAMN IT.

In the end, this may help us more than we think… LSU almost never loses a home game at night, but at 10 (11 est) in the morning… who knows. Don’t think it will be as loud as it would have been.

Lets just hope AE is a
morning person…

This will be the earliest game in Tiger Stadium in recent memory. that means we have to start tailgating about 5 hours ago. BLOODY MARYS FOR ALL! Looking foward to the game. Good luck everybody. Hopefully no one gets hurt like so many did for the South Carolina game.

Comment by Kevin P from LSU 08.29.08 @ 3:59 pm

I’ll second that Kevin P.

It is official…I now have to go to the bar at 9am to get a table for the game. “Can I get some french toast and a shot of Beam please? And remember to bring that extra syrup. Thanks Flo”

Comment by Jamey 08.29.08 @ 4:11 pm
