As we all know, a major storm is headed into the Gulf. Evacuations are now being considered, especially in New Orleans. And that causes a problem for football fans.
Edmondson said contraflow basically stops everything in its path, which would chiefly be from New Orleans to Baton Rouge on I-10.
“Once that order is given, it’s a huge impact on everything, particularly if you have 120,000 people around Tiger Stadium and 92,000 in Tiger Stadium,” said Edmonson, who has worked with LSU at football games since the 1980s.
“That’s why we are working very closely with LSU,” he said. “We’ll make a recommendation to LSU. We’ll be watching the storm very closely. Contraflow usually is not ordered unless a storm hits level three or higher.”
LSU officials are scheduled to meet with state officials at 4 p.m. today. Expect further details then.

ABOUT YOUR AIRLINE TICKETS. Just in case this effects you.
Airlines are waiving fees for New Orleans passengers who want to change travel plans ahead of Tropical Storm Gustav. So far, two big U.S. airlines – Continental and US Airways – have weather waivers that include U.S. destinations on the Gulf Coast.
SO FAR GAME ON. Posted online around 1:30.
The LSU Tigers did not evacuate after Katrina, and the school currently has no plans to alter Saturday’s scheduled home game. In a statement, the university said it would continue to monitor the storm and would cooperate with local and state officials, but as of Wednesday, the game was expected to go on as scheduled Saturday afternoon.
The school said it would post any changes related to Saturday’s season opener on its Web site, LSUsports.net.
And no, Baton Rouge would not be impacted by a storm as much as it would be evacuees from the New Orleans area.
FRIDAY MORNING. Game is still on … kinda.
Gov. Jindal said he’s not planning to have LSU call off its football team’s home opener against Appalachian State. The 92,000-seat Tiger Stadium is sold out and thousands of tailgaters will fill the parking lots around it. But Jindal acknowledged that could change because the of the interference with contraflow.
There is no such thing as Hurricanes, Chuck Norris just does not like coastal cities.
Comment by Jamey 08.28.08 @ 2:50 pmguys,,being a long time resident of louisiana,,i have a bad feeling about this storm and the chances of our game look more grim day by day
Comment by justin 08.28.08 @ 3:08 pmI hope something happens with the storm because I have a lot of money riding on this trip. My flight is most likely going to be canceled. This just sucks.
Comment by Jeff 08.28.08 @ 3:22 pmIf I am reading everything right, the concern is not that the weather will affect the game, but that the game traffic would hinder possible evacuation routes?
