So where are you parking this season?

Got parking?

That right there is the official Yosef Club member parking map for the upcoming football season. The library parking deck and the John Thomas lot are now officially considered “priority” parking areas.

The biggest – and honestly most disappointing – change is the Greenwood lot. That one-time zoo now has a $1,000 admission. Except, of course, for 126 lucky students.

Although the Greenwood Parking Lot was previously available for general public tailgating use, Appalachian’s Department of Athletics came to the Student Government Association wishing to designate the entire parking lot to their donors, SGA president David Mofford said.

However, after deliberation, the decision was reached by the Chancellor to designate 126 spaces in the Greenwood Parking Lot instead of 150, according to a SGA press release on July 22.

Last season that lottery was for Raley lot. So enjoy Greenwood while you can.

And for those freeloaders economically-constrained fans who can’t buy space on campus, there’s always the AppalCart. Such is the price for our success. Welcome to the big time.

(And no, this is not a complaint. Given the demand for tickets and seats, this parking plan was inevitable. And remember, the money goes to scholarships.)

Parking on the street is still free right?

Looks like we’ll have a sprint to South Lot!

It’s disappointing that the library deck is no longer for general fans. I purchase season tickets, but my current donation to the college is in the form of student loan repayments and I simply can’t afford to join the Yosef club yet(maybe after the SL are repaid). My wife and I love the library lot b/c it was perfectly situated between downtown, the bookstore and the stadium. Oh well, guess I should have seen it coming though. Welcome to the big time indeed.

Do student fees count towards parking permits?

That money enhances athletic facilities.

And that “home field advantage” is not coming from Yosef Clubbers

First, Rivers Street is reserved parking, according to the YC brochure. Also, the spots that were designated for students in Raley will be available again this season. I understand that students are upset about losing possible tailgate areas, but without the YC donations, student fees would be even higher. The $2.5 mil that they will donate this year would have to come from somewhere. Parking is the only thing that ASU has as a carrot to dangle.

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m a Yosef Clubber, season ticket holder and I sneak down to the student section to cheer with best student section in the country!

South Lot becoming part of this is inevitable. Still, with the walkways and stairs leading from Greenwood to the Stadium, that’s a relatively short walk compared to some of the SEC games I’ve been to!

Hell – the idea of students “tailgating” in parking lots would be considered absurd at most of those places…where you find a friend who lives close to campus, drum up a party in their parking lot, and walk to the game!

In some ways, it sucks…in others, it’s great progress!

Man I hope not. leave at least south open for no club members at least one more year. If so, be at the mall on game day :)

If you’re referring to Sanford Mall…that’s probably not too far away either. I have buddies that go to Auburn, and there, pretty much any green spot you can find is where you tailgate…even if you have to haul stuff a few hundred yards from your car!

I also think, eventually, Duck Pond might become less about Greeks, and more about different schools and clubs hosting donors. That’s prime tailgating land right there!

A little known fact for those in search of great parking…Mountaineer Village. I lived there for 2 years, never saw anyone towed and there is tons of space. They also send an Appalcart that way about every 25 minutes so you wont wait too long. My friends and I took it all the time.

I ‘d just like to say that’s one of the nicest looking campus maps I’ve ever seen. Is it from the appstate.edu website? I’ve never seen it there, not that I’ve looked lately.

The duckpond tailgating has begun including various student organizations besides just the Greek fraternities and sororities, so that should help some of the student tailgates. As for me, we park wherever we can and then hike it in to the tailgate areas on campus. We figured out 2 seasons ago that if you get in good with a Yosef Club member and toss them a couple bucks to help out with food…etc you are normally welcome at their tailgate anytime. The parking will be a pain, but 30,000 in the stadium will bring the term “Home Field Advantage” to a whole new level at ASU.

I’d be willing to pay to park in someones yard or at their house just so I don’t have to get their at 6AM.

Looks like we’ll all be getting to Hill St. lot at 6am. The baseball feild took most of the South lot there aren’t many spaces there anymore. My guess is that the guest staying at the Broyhill will take up the south lot.

Comment by tony 08.08.08 @ 1:56 pm

south is a big lot. I worked at broyhill and when it was sold out the cars hardly touch the top of the south lot. thinking hill st. around 7 a.m. just need one spot. how many they got at hill st….
