Habits – “The Spartans produced yet another turnaround, rallying from a 17-point deficit to knock off App State 77-73 in OT. It was the fifth straight victory for the Spartans, now 7-14 and 5-4 in SoCon play. ASU laid the foundation for what could have been a road-game windfall by rolling to a 30-13 lead in the first half.” Sounds kinda familiar, doesn’t it? /deep sigh
embarrassing to say the least…..turnovers and missed free throws….killin’ the Apps…the guys uniform bottoms were so big that it looked like they had dresses on…terrible….Elon might beat us by twenty tomorrow
Roy and the boys won….all that matters until football season
we were down 7 with under 2 minutes to go, then couldnt hit a shot in overtime. whats been wrong with carter this year?
The SoCon is home to some really, really bad basketball. There are 344 teams in D-I basketball and the SoCon North Division doesn’t have a team with an RPI better then 219 (Western). The rest are Elon 227, ASU 236, UNCG 254, UTC 288, & Samford 315. The South Division is a little better thanks to Davidson at a very respectable 46, followed by CoC 99, Wofford 178, GSU 245, FU 258, & Citadel 333. In comparison UNCA is 131, Char Southern 142, Coastal Carolina 157, & Campbell 158.
Was ceez on the trolling list?
Yep, you are correct. The Southern Conference, except for an occasional anomaly, continues to smack. ASU will never be a good/great mid-major until the men’s basketball program is moved out of the Southern. Recruiting suffers greatly. And, as we all know, ASU has never had a NBA player in the current era.
My observation is that ASU men’s team has a decent supporting cast but no game changer.
Ceez, please stick to posting only on baby blue fan sites until football season if that’s all that matters to you, you shameless moronic troll.
Makes you realize how good Donald Sims was the last couple of years. this team just can’t quite get over the hump. Let’s hope for better things ahead. Good new is that App only has one really decent team to beat to win the SoCon Tourney.
Current era? Define current. Does it mean since the WWII era?
When a team has this many issues shooting free throws and not finishing, the root cause is nearly always the coaching staff… Perhaps the coaches need to stop being friends with the players and start being true leaders…
No mention of the Uncg students rushing the court at the end of the game? Winning 5 in a row isn’t a reason to storm the court, especially against us.
Looking at these RPI numbers the best thing for ASU would be to move all sports to the Big South and then get football into an FBS conference. Travel issues would be elminated, football would have better competition, and it looks like basketball & baseball would have equal or better competition.
ceez you just lost every ounce of credibility as an ASU grad with that post. I’d just as soon you go pull for the tar babies in football too. Makes one wonder what colors you were wearing when the Apps played those clowns this year.
You want to know one of the reasons the SoCon sucks at basketball?
We’re in it.
Sad news-Just heard Bobby Cremins has taken a leave of absence for medical reasons. GREAT HUMAN BEING!!
If you think I am even close to being serious with my post above I would like to welcome you to the Appfan blog. Look in the archives and you will see my hatred towards UNC and even more importantly, my support for asu basketball. My post was to mock likely the majority who feel the way I posted. Athletics do not receive support at ASU, football does…I remember going to the socon title game in Charlotte when we played Wofford. Half of the asu supporters didn’t even know the players on the roster, and half would not have been there if unc were on tv. This will never change unless we get a good team. Did everyone show up to the rock on saturdays or did it take consistent success to set attendance records?
Darryl Robinson who played for Bobby was drafted by Golden State in 1979 in the 4th round. He is now the coach at Durham Hillside. His son played at Clemson. that is the last guy i know of. We had him as an assistant a couple years ago. At least at the highschool level I have never seen a better head coach. I saw every game he coached for four years at Leesville High. With the excepton of the year he had his son and Anthony Richardson (Fla State), I have never seen a man do more with less, than he did. He won a lot of games with below average talent.
I love the Socon and FCS.
so if we move from this conference we cant win to a better coference to be the doormat thats agood thing. really. dont blame the socon for our failure in baseball although we have been much much better than we ever have been or basketball. you win by developing talent a the mid majors. there are alot of teams with no NBA players that win. I dont know if we will see sucess from this staff or team but we need to try because we have had a revolving door of staff and players in the last few seasons. consistancy on the court a recruiting trails need time when you dont have a big name coach and i would agree this unit would be pretty good with a big time scorer in the 3 or 4 slot
Daryl robinson who’s son, Shawon played at Clemson…. Played HS with dj Thompson and jay McMillan. HUGE part in getting dj to come to app.
ceez please accept my sincere apologies. Any unc-ch hater is my friend. Even if we do differ on some other things.
Coaching moves were not good down the stretch.
Its all good. I really can’t stand unc. Sadly my hate grew while I attended app because so many students are unc fans. Best time to work out in the winter was when unc was on tv. The SRC would be empty.
“Darryl Robinson who played for Bobby was drafted by Golden State in 1979 in the 4th round.”
Darryl was one of my favorite Cremins-era players, and one of Bobby’s first–and likely best–recruits. If he’s doing a lot with a little in Durham, that’s yet another thing he learned playing for Cremins, along with the more tangible qualities.
So, essentially, we have had virtually no NBA draftees–and no successful NBA players–since the Belus Smawley days, right? No one posting here can remember Smawley, except perhaps from the record books.
