Opportunity – “The Jets worked out several players Tuesday. The group included former Bucs and Panthers WR/KR Dexter Jackson, a second-round pick of the Bucs in ’08. Mostly recently, Jackson played with the Virginia Destroyers of the UFL. The Destroyers are coached by Marty Schottenheimer, father of Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.” Make that UFL champion Virginia Destroyers. So says the coach.
But, the question is, is the talent level more equal that it was a year ago? “It’s probably less even than you think,” said head coach Jeff Monken. “They’re a lot more talented than we are, they’re faster, they’re bigger. They’re defensive line, they’re outweighing us buy 40, 60 pounds in some places. That wide receiver, the Quick kid they’ve got, 6-5, 220 pounds, we don’t have anybody like that. Word is even more stadium enhancements are in App State’s future. And that future may have a photo.

Dude.
We make no claim to the authenticity of that photo. We’re clueless as to its origination. It was found here. But we’ve heard rumors of such a project, so we can’t help but theorize.
We assume it’s part of the big $200M pep rally that started last weekend.

The Stink in Boone. Black Saturday. SoCon TV Game of the Week. 3 p.m. kickoff. Four downs.
1st Down – Stinks wants this game, bad. Four years ago, the Eagles came to Boone and ended the nation’s longest win streak. Two year ago, the good guys delivered a beatdown so gruesome, it helped get the coach fired. In four days the return – “I don’t think we’ve ever been controlled as a team like that,” (tackle Brent) Russell . . . → Read More: Next: The big smelly one

Revenge – “(DP) was an instant and surprising hit, registering six tackles and forcing a fumble. “I had one or two pretty big hits, at least to me,” Presley said. “I got (Samford QB Dustin) Taliaferro near the sideline one time. .. “The thing is, I’ve been hit so much myself as a quarterback. San Fran is off today, so App State great Daniel Kilgore was in the place to be Saturday. The pro was roaming stadium lot prior to kickoff. Great to see him back. Now to those Apps working today. Sticks and Denver in Miami for a sure win on Tebow Day. Hey Mr. DJ and the Pack in Minnesota for another gimmie. Bears in Tampa Bay* and Redskins at Panthers. Uhhhhh – “In 12 years of covering this program, I have never seen the Catamounts play so poorly at home as they did in a 35-7 loss to The Citadel – not even when D-II Tusculum chopped the Cats up like firewood last fall. As if to accentuate the Catamounts‘ problems, the homecoming crowd of 7,277 was eerily quiet throughout the first half.”

It started ugly.
Punt. Interception. Fumble. Fumble. Lil Sammy FG. Missed App State FG.
Anything you can do, we can do worser!
Then came the second quarter. Then came some Jamal Jackson.
A 3-0 hole at the end of the first was a 21-3 bubble at the half, and the doggies never threatened again.
Final, 35-17, good guys.
Even bigger score? 26-21, Furman over Wofford.

Pups – “Of the 95 we’ve got on our team, I think 50 of them are freshmen or redshirt freshmen. They’re young but they’re playing with a lot of enthusiasm.” The Bulldogs have a seasoned quarterback in four-year starter Dustin Taliaferro, who is second in the SoCon in passing efficiency.” App State new-look O against an up-and-comer. Should be an interesting game. Bonus – today’s high? 56. The other league game to pay attention to, Wofford at Furman . . . → Read More: Game thread – Happy Homecoming
