Learning Twitter 101 the hard way

There’s really foul language involved, but dude … can’t. stop. laughing – “Elon RB Jamal Shuman is frustrated. The Phoenix lost 48-28 to Wofford, and Shuman only factored in one play—a five-yard pass reception. So he did what anyone would do in that situation, and vented on Twitter. He did this without understanding that his tweets were public.” Hilarity ensues. Finally Forcier has some serious competition for . . . → Read More: Learning Twitter 101 the hard way

Mapping the road to a SoCon title

Hard to believe, but just three scant weeks remain in the 2011 SoCon regular season.

Three!

Where has all the time gone?

/glances at stack of empty beer cartons

Anyhoo ….

The SoCon has become a variant of the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Just three teams have a chance at gold – App State, Stink and Wofford.

All three have one league loss. App State to Wofford. Stink to App State. And Wofford to Furman.

Soooooo .. who gets blame this time

During the App State beatdown Saturday, the Georgia Southern president got in the way. Tough dude – “Georgia Southern President Brooks Keel sustained a leg injury during the fourth quarter against Appalachian State. Keel, who was standing on the Eagles’ sideline, was hit by a player during a play that ended out of bounds. “It’s dislocated and broken,” said Keel, who was being pushed in a wheelchair at the stadium after visiting a local hospital. “And it was . . . → Read More: Soooooo .. who gets blame this time

NFL thread – Three App games on tap

The big game on the Apps In The NFL lineup is Detroit at … /bows down … Denver. Sticks looks to bring down a team he once started for, and he may start today at DE. The Panthers try to get a streak going with the Vikings in town. San Fan entertains Cleveland. No word yet on if Kilgore will be active. GBU: Big one down, three to go

Ahhhhh .. feels good, huh? There’s nothing like life in the driver’s seat.

App State put the clamps on the famed Stink offense today, upending the previously unbeaten No. 1 team in FCS land 24-17 in a game with more tension then Chris Aiken’s Under Armour.

It had it all. Big leads. Big comebacks. Big plays. Big catches.

But biggest of all? The App State D. A triple option machine was no match for the unexpected . . . → Read More: GBU: Big one down, three to go

Gameday – Black Saturday

App State has been here before.

It was here last year. After cruising through the SoCon 6-0, it hit Stink. Thus the following week against then 6-0 Wofford became a de facto SoCon title game.

Apps won at home, 43-13.

The 2009 season was devoid any real late drama, though a date with the Swag seemed intense at the time. Good guys won that game too, 27-10.

In those same two seasons were five do-or-die postseason . . . → Read More: Gameday – Black Saturday

For the pessimists. “The Mountaineers (are) down four starters on defense because of injuries or suspensions since the season began.”

For the optimists. ” I think the jury is still out in regard to if ASU’s is slipping.”

For the intense optimists. No jinxing now.

For the FBSers. Cue John Lennon music.

For fans of the Quickness. “Everybody tried to get me to play football again. But I just wanted to play basketball.”

Our rare and possibly only contribution to society

Our $5 neck of the internets has existed for just over four years. In all our random posts and comments, one seems to have stuck – the Stink. Each year about this time we get the question, where’d that perfect nickname come from? We explained it before, and given the importance of Saturday’s game, want to remind you – “Beware any man or woman in blue carrying jugs of putrid puddles. If one drop again falls within our . . . → Read More: Our rare and possibly only contribution to society

Prediction thread – Close one versus big margin

The past five App State-Stink games were pretty epic. Two went to OT (one double OT). Two others decided by 3 points or less. And just one massive blowout (52-16 last time in Boone). Take out that glorious beatdown, the average winning margin in that span is 4.5 points. This season the Stink has blown just about everybody out, while App has its share of nailbiters. O/U: Winning margin for Black Saturday – 6. We’ll say …. over. . . . → Read More: Prediction thread – Close one versus big margin

Is this end of App football dynasty?

Hyperbolic – “This could mark the end of the ASU dynasty; a loss would likely end the run of SoCon titles and would endanger the streak of six straight seasons of postseason play.” Uhhhhh … back in 2007 App State lost twice in SoCon and still won titles. Wasn’t it Lincoln who said, “Those who don’t know history are doomed to cover the ‘Whee as a sports beat”?

We’re always slammed by some for daring to point out less than optimal weather forecasts, but oh well. Saturday looks kinda burrrrrrr – “Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain and snow in the morning…then mostly sunny in the afternoon. Highs in upper 40s.” We say chance of snow disappears, high goes closer to 50. But it doesn’t matter. We’ll be there.
