We’re still kinda in shock. In fact, only one thing snapped us out of it …. Really? Seriously. Really??
/shakes head.
And as capitalistic as that is, consider the new pressure to drop the C and get with the B.
U-M will pay ASU $850,000 if it’s still an FCS program at the time of the game, or $1 million if it’s in the FBS, an Appalachian State spokesman said. It is a one-game contract.

Possibilities – “The coaching staff has talked about how good Armanti Edwards has looked during the preseason. At some point, Edwards is likely to run the wildcat offense, something the Panthers have practiced. Will it happen tonight, or will they save it for the regular season?”

Dude – “App State will return to the site of one of the most memorable moments in sports history when it opens the 2014 season at the University of Michigan. The schools agreed on Thursday to square off on Aug. 30, 2014 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.”

FINALLY it’s preseason preview time here at AppFan. We’re calling it Over/Under 2011. Every few days we’ll throw out our best guess estimate of a future stat, and you tell us why we’re wrong.
We feel guilty throwing this out there, but it has to be asked.
Over/under – Days until App State publicly announces a FBS conference invite: 137 days
That’s the number of days between now and the FCS title game. Whatcha think?

Punchlines wanted – “WCU’s lack of college scene viewed by many as an asset. In fact, there’s no town at all in Cullowhee, unless you count the handful of businesses that make up the “Catwalk” near the center of campus. “Here, you have to make an actual decision to go out,” Wallis-Johnson says.”

We’ve had numerous requests for gear that sports the AppFan.com logo.
Ask and it shall be given…
The AppFan Store has a limited supply of these dandy noggin covers so grab’em now – one for warm weather and one for not-so-warm weather.

No, not the big decision. An honest to Bunn earthquake in Virginia felt in Boone. Twitter (again) has details, as does your nearest facebook feed. CNN reporting “Magnitude 5.8 earthquake shakes Virginia, D.C. and New York.” Also felt as far south as Charlotte.

Twitter has details – “Charlie Cobb says he has talked to “a lot of conferences”.” Plus this – “Appalachian State AD Charlie Cobb said about eight FCS programs could make a successful jump to the FBS.” What exactly defines “successful.”? Financially? Competitively? Is Western Kentucky a success? Just asking. We’ll link to more details on his comments when available.

The start of reseason camp is a magical time.
Every running back will be a 1,000 yard rusher. Every linebacker is just crushing the ball. Even players in the ‘Whee can be deluded, just for a sec, that they’re a title contender.
But then comes the work. The drills. The on-field play. And some dreams became a bit closer to reality.
For example, Mountaineers Doug Middleton and Steven Miller. These guys are gonna be awesome!

There’s pressure, then there’s puh-ressure!
The App State defense lost three players to the NFL, two of which were draft picks. All three were bulldozers on the field. And Brandon Grier is determined to clear just as much space as they did.
Bar set. Git ‘er done!
Grier is poised to become part of the next group of Mountaineers defensive stars, beginning Sept. 3 when ASU travels to Blacksburg to face nationally ranked Virginia Tech.
