This just in – actual schedule worse than no schedule

The 2011 NFL schedule is out. Pretending for a moment it will actually be played, what are the top 10 worst games? Wait … really? – “1. Carolina Panthers vs. Anybody, Sept. 11-Jan. 1. As uncompetitive as the team was last year, it could be worse this year.” Really? The team has a decent D, special teams and running game. New coaching should be worth 5, 6 wins easy. . . . → Read More: This just in – actual schedule worse than no schedule

A taste of the atmosphere at Va Tech

Va Tech has its spring game Saturday. Last year, 41,000 people showed up. Yeah … that many.

For those who wonder how the Hokies take the field, wonder no more. Simple, yet awesome.

Incoming – Who’s up for debating the death penalty?

Making news – “North Carolina should repeal the death penalty because it is expensive, ineffective and racially biased, an App State professor says in a new study.” If valid, couldn’t the same argument then be made for any prison sentence? How much more tragic is a life sentence overturned after 30 years served compared to an alleged “wrong” death penalty? Should it depend on cost-benefit analysis, margin of error?

So what goes on at an App State pro day anyway?

This.

Look who’s movin’ on up (mooo-vin on up!)

To a deluxe apartment, in the MAC – “Massachusetts will be joining the Mid-American Conference for football only, according to sources within the league. However, while UMass will begin MAC football play in 2012 it will not be eligible for a MAC title or bowl opportunities until 2013.”

A glimpse at what Jones Arena missed

The leaping ability of Mr. Fantastic Brian Quick is well documented. It’s not so much a question of how high he can jump, but how long he can stay in the air.

More than one person has seen his gridiron awesomeness and wondered, what if he was on the App State bball team. What. If.

Wonder no more. Dude* …..

App State claims another pitching honor

Control – “Arrowood tossed a four-hit shutout to defeat Samford, 4-0, on Friday. The junior did not surrender a base hit to 14-straight batters at one point and retired the final eight hitters he faced.” The Apps’ 4.42 ERA is sixth in the league. They play Presbyterian tonight in Boone.

A quick thought on Saturday’s awful weather

Boone got rain, uh-lot of rain, but the eastern part of the state got much, much worse.

One vid stands out though.

Among the comments, “ABC11-TV asked Steven Hoag how was he so calm: “I was a Marine, and I love Jesus!””

We believe the phrase is, “Like a boss.”

Dark humor aside, we hope the best for App fans down East.

What is it with private schools in SC?

First was Wofford, now Furman – “Furman University said five football players have either been suspended or dismissed after being arrested following an undercover drug investigation. A sixth student, who is not on the football team, was also ticketed.”

Not Quate there but getting closer

To the best of our limited knowledge, there hasn’t been a Mountaineer in the big leagues since Don Cardwell left the game in 1970.

The end of that App-less streak may be nigh, if Zach Quate can keep doing that voodoo that he do-do.

Hey batta, batta. batta … SWING!

In the 2009 draft, the pitcher who once didn’t think he’d have a pro future in baseball went in the 14th round to the Rays.

Baseball thread – Lil Sammy at App State

The series is underway! Pollard’s Pounders have won four straight and are looking – nay, needing – to climb some notches in the standings. Five teams, including App (6-9), are separated by two wins. Sammy is tied for second place at 9-3. Game Saturday at 3; Sunday at 12.

Yes, there have been talks with possible conferences

Patience – “”We’re not under the gun where we have to make a decision at a certain time.” Sywassink said there has been some communication with FBS conferences, but did not say which ones those were. Just because App State wants to make a move to the FBS, it doesn’t necessarily mean a spot will immediately open. “We talked about if they would take a school such as ours, what would we need to . . . → Read More: Yes, there have been talks with possible conferences
